Yes and I'd 'like' that turquoise GE Dryer in Ahunstic too.... I still 'need' a place to live, though...

Oh my!!! We have to replace the Jenn Aire but the push-button burner controls bother me. It's bad enough we don't have gas for cooking, but then to limit (somewhat) the versatility of Lo through Hi infinite dial control??

Once You!

Get used to it, I think you might like it, I have never had a problem with having only 5 heats, mainly because they are exactly the same every time, and you soon learn how to adjust for each cooking operation, for example, when canning, you start on high, when the pressure guage got to 8 lbs, I turned it down to "Third" which is medium on a GE, usually the pressure would go to 10 lbs and stay there, with an infinite heat you are constantly fiddling with the control becauce it is cycling , not providing steady heat.

Hotpoint called them "Recipe Heats" because they were just what recipes called for. I must admit that there is a need for something between high and 2 when boiling pasta, but that control pod with the pushbuttons can be replaced to hold the 4 infinite heat switches and the cover snaps into the space of the old one. Wouldn't that be neat to have a turquoise GE cooktop with infinite heat switches? The heats from the units were very even and dependable and, like Hans said, you are not fiddling with an infinite switch finding the right setting in the range of each heat. Even before I had the break away pressure regulator for my Presto canner, which meant that it was possible to let the pressure get over the desired level, I did as Hans said and had perfect results every time, even on the 5 heat Radiantube units. Even when I canned green beans one summer on a gas stove, the burner had to be adjusted twice; once when the gauge hit 10 pounds and then a little later as the contents of the jars got hotter, the flame had to be lowered again.

I did kinda cheat with my 1954 40" Frigidaire range, though. We stripped an OLD Frigidaire apartment range and I put the 208 volt 3 wire elements in the front positions on that stove. That brought their output up to modern wattages so there was lots of power for canning. I even had plenty of heat to do stir frying on the 6" element.

We got the measurements from Kim and we tried and tried, but just couldn't manage to make it fit without closing in the kitchen again. Damn! Only 2 hours away.
