Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

arrrghh! It's a Vampyr duplex!!!

Always wanted one of these.

Use the link to see Gerrit's collection in Bremerhaven for other releases of this rare build of a vacuum. It was called "Vampyr duplex" (or TK in later years, short for "Teppichkehrer" = sweeper vac). "Duplex" was for the two motors in it.

It was twin-motored, a little motor in the lower part of it, driving the brush roll (directly behind the brush roller was the bag compartment, so no major losses through lengthy suction paths, a sealed fabric bag holding the paper throw-away bag), the main motor was a dual-fan blower of 650 W in the upper part of the machine.

See the two toggle switches on top of the machine? One was the major on/off (suction), the other one the (additional) brush roll on/off.
"Intensiv" in the name meant: Extra power surge switch for stubborn situations: At the top end of the long handle was a ring-shaped acuator close to the hand grip: You twist it to the right with your thumb and off you go with some extra power (more watts, more speed).
The actual switch of course was in the motor base unit (underneath the handle thread socket), the long handle having an inner metal bar or "shaft" to turn that switch on once you push the ring lever to the right. (might have been some extra 200 watts or so, if I remember this right)

Marvellous machine, great suction too, as they used regular canister vacuum motors in it. Suction-plate-connector hose and a full tool kit came with it as well.)

Colour design: AEG used white and "burgundy" red at the end of the sixties and with the introduction of "Intensivstufe" (= power surge option) those special models got that odd pea-soup-like "green". Later in the 70ies this screaming orange was prevalent for almost anything (along with cappucino-beige and stale-coffee-brown...)

Unfortunately the "duplex" uprights were discontinued in favour of cheaper single-motored uprights with top-filled bag (very much like the low cost "Fanthom", "Koblenz", "Progress", "Fakir" and other similar models in the US)

Too bad this ebayer ships to UK only :-(

Hope this helps.
Joe

VW Folletto (Kobold)

Hi Joe,
thanks for the link. we're the very only country where "Kobold" has been translated (even the Thermomix here is "Bimby"). In the past sweepers here were mostly Hoover and Kobolds with the electro-brush

Also the washers are interesting ... I see a dropdown door "Koboldmat Clara" ;) and a Juno

... anyway congrats for the Nova Regina, IMHO the most beautiful ever made Lavamat. Was there even a matching lighted Favorit ?

Carlo

confused...

hey Carlo, thanks for the reply.

"only country" ->
Not quite so, Spain has "Bimby" blenders, too. And in France, a few models of the Kobolds were named "Optima", while Ireland called them "Vacmaster" or "Mighty Maid" in the US.

"Koboldmat Clara"?
Where do you see that? Very Interesting, have you got a link? (the "Clara" addition in the name must be from the AEG company, they produced all these drop-down-door washers for companies like BBC, Vorwerk, Rondo and the like: The names were Clara, Bella, Regina, Prinzess etc.)
And where is the Juno? Please help out.

"Congratulations"? Thanks, but that washer is not mine, nor is your link my youtube account. Neither are the Vorwerk links mine, they belong to a friend and his collector pals.

Matching Favorit dishwasher: No, there wasn't. AEG started producing dishwashers in the late 60s and beginning 70s, when all lighting had already gone from the washers. (So the matching design for dishwashers was just the plain chromed front panel.)
I remember a top loading DW "Favorit R", it had 3 white knobs on the backsplash and a door release button on the front panel, the wash container was of greenish polypropylene. My aunt owned it, there was a bottom spray arm with and extended tube going up to the top rack.)

Cheers, Joe

"koboldmat" ...

i was pranking with names ... that drop down design is like a signature :) looks somewhat different from ASKO, Matura or Bauknecht ones

Those makes with the big, flat, silver knobs here were sold as Telefunken.

I can't make up between real Zanker and real AEG makes. I guessed drop-downs were made by AEG and also badged Zanker, viceversa boot/gummi machines were made by Zanker and also rebadged as AEG. Is that true ?

Juno rensemblance - what about this :
