Unusual style GE 40-inch electric range - Winston-Salem NC - $250

I have never seen a 40-inch range with a low-profile console like this before.  The model tag picture is a bit difficult to read, but I don't think this is a 1953 model.  That 'evenizer' in the oven would suggest something more from the 40s and a 5-heat dial surface unit control is throwing me...  

 

It's pretty neat-looking though!

Very low end HP and GE models could have dials. GE put an evenizer over the first Calrod bake elements, but it was a disaster. First, the bake element was wavy from back to front so there was a lot more mass than the more modern design. Second, the evenizer over it held too much heat between cycling on and off. They tended to overbrown on the bottom of baked goods. I have a 24" 1954 that originally had an evenizer, but the bake element was replaced.

 

I wonder if the red GE emblem was the oven signal light.

A Builders' Special

Definitely BOL.  Those oven doors look very Hotpoint-ish.  In some of my early 1950's builders' magazines there are ads pushing electric cooking, and promoting the inclusion of electric ranges like this one.

I agree with Lawrence; that looks much more like a Hotpoint to me than a GE. They did, after all, hold the first patent on the Calrod unit. Maybe this is just an early example of the re-badge jobs that were to come. Also, is this a Canadian model?

The "Beacon"

GE's least expensive range model; retailing for $189.95 in 1953. Evidently no storage drawer at the bottom like the other models have. I agree it looks a lot like a Hotpoint.

I really like the low profile of the back of this range. I would buy one like this today if they still made them.

Cute BOL 40" Range

But with no oven racks and also missing the real panel to cover the wiring I dough they will get many offers, especially when you consider the great job they did cleaning it up for sale.
