The upgrade process will prompt for paying a fee/donation, which helps support the costs of running the site. Benefits include access to the private messaging system, ability to edit posts, access to As the Tub Turns and Dirty Laundry sections, among a few other things.

"How much do they want you to pay?"
"They" is Robert, our webmaster. He ran this site for years out of his own generosity until the costs became too much: paying for internet connections, server space and other necessities adds up, not to mention the significant amount of time it takes to administer the site and write the custom software. So he created the upgrade to help defray costs, plus it allowed new members-only forums and some nifty software features.
Nowhere will you find more for less!

Sounds like the waitron at the strange lunch I had Saturday "what kind of tea do you have?" "what kind do you want" "what do you have on tap" "what kind do you want? We have a local beer that's a step up from bud/miller light (i.e. Goose Island)".. Argh!

For Clarity
The "As the Tub Turns" and "Dirty Laundry" forums are for off-topic discussions (although Robert will usually post about an available machine in ATT for paying members first before taking it to the general membership), and some content in the "Dirty Laundry" forum can be controversial and/or adults-only material. For that reason and in the interest of restricting under-age member access, upgrade payments are processed through PayPal.

Last time I checked the annual membership was very reasonable, $12. I pay it with Paypal.
