BETHESDA, Md (WUSA) -- Macy's is recalling nearly one million Martha Stewart Collection casserole dishes.

The enamel coating on the cast-iron cookware cracks, breaks and can fly off, posing a risk of cuts and burns to users and bystanders.

The recall involves 7 quart, 5.5 quart and 2.75 quart-sized enamel cast iron casseroles. They come in red, cobalt blue, sand, green, blue, white, mustard, brown and teal exterior finishes and a cream colored interior finish.

The casseroles are embossed with Martha Stewart Collection on the bottom and lid.

The cookware was manufactured in China and sold nationwide at Macy's stores and macys.com from June 2007 through June 2011. It was priced between $25 and $170.

You should stop using the product immediately, and return them to Macy's for a full refund.

Le Creuset and other brands of porcelainized cast iron always required a bit of care and judgement in use, but were generally owned by people who appreciated and valued the cookware. It could be damaged by careless handling, but it did not generally self destruct. I am always curious about manufacturing shortcuts taken to bring down the cost of items that have expensive and exacting manufacturing processes. Martha is going to get burned by putting her name on high-priced Chinese junk and I don't mean a new line of boats.
