Anyone remember any vehicles their babysitters, teachers etc. in relation to the other topics involving A/C equipped vehicles, whether or not the vehicles had A/C
apart from your family? One of my babysitters had a 1970's Chevy Vega hatchback, similar to a Ford Pinto/Bobcat hatchback, another who was Native American, she had a 1970's Oldsmobile four door sedan with lime green exterior & white/lime green interior, one teacher had a 1970's VW Beetle,& my 1990's high
school teacher, she had a beat up 1980's red Pontiac Firebird.

The sitter that stayed with my sister and I didn't drive. Her husband had an old car; I'm thinking a '48 or '49 Pontiac, that was a dark blue-gray color. Obviously it didn't have air cond. She was our sitter in the late 50's to late 60's.

She only lived a couple blocks away, so alway walked to our house. The only time we rode in their car was if we had gone to their house, and they took us someplace. Usually to get ice cream, or to her sister's house in the country.

The lady across the street<span data-ft="{"tn":"K"}" data-reactid=".tu.1:3:1:$comment10152285326083460_10152285609073460:0.0.$right.0.$left.0.0.1:$comment-body"><span class="UFICommentBody" data-reactid=".tu.1:3:1:$comment10152285326083460_10152285609073460:0.0.$right.0.$left.0.0.1:$comment-body.0"><span data-reactid=".tu.1:3:1:$comment10152285326083460_10152285609073460:0.0.$right.0.$left.0.0.1:$comment-body.0.$end:0:$0:0">'s</span></span></span> pillar-less 4 door Chrysler Newport hardtop & how cool both of the side doors, on each side looked open, with the windows completely down!

Almost like a carnival ride...!

blast from the past

.. both memories are from the early 60's = babysitter - cute as pie redhead Dianne had a baby blue Falcon - no A/C - would sneak us into the backseat and take us to the Derrick - a local teenage hangout - and best french fries known to man ... 2nd memory, Homemaking teacher in the 8th grade - 1963 - had a pale blue Renault Dauphine - very very cute car - although I never rode in it

1965 Chrysler Newport

My eight grade grammar teacher in Arlington Va (a woman who was identical to older Rosalind Russel, please believe me!) had a brand new 1965 four door hardtop ivory Chrysler Newport, with air conditioning. I remember her telling us how beautiful the car was, how soft it rode and how good the air conditioner was. She would park the car not in the teachers parking lot but in the students parking lot, because that way she could watch the car from her classroom window all day long! LOL!

Never had a sitter drive me anywhere. Sitters sat.

Did have a carpool to school, none airconned including ours. The school wasn't either. Nor the city buses. Our HOUSE wasn't until 1957 (I was 11yo).

My first aircon car was a 67 Plymouth I bought in 1976. Had to fix the air but once fixed would almost literally blow ice cubes.

Our baby sitter had a 51' Dodge that was a very dark burgundy color. One time she took us to a local amusement park while my parents were out of town and we were all bored. I must have been 6 or 7 so I don't remember much about riding in it, but I do remember what the car looked like. Her car didn't have air conditioning. But I do remember that you had a starter button on the floor. Put the key in and step on the starter to start it. First and last time I ever saw that setup.

I also remember that she liked Ferris Wheels. We went on it over and over again. My sister wasn't fond of them, but she got used to it.

The lady who had the '70 Newport Chrysler also had an AMC Pacer, both Air Conditioned, AIRTEMP A/C sticker on one of the Chrysler side windows, and all!

Seems as though EVERYONE had air conditioning except us! One neighbor had a 1978 Mercury Marquis Brougham & one time when I was riding in it, I thought that the A/C was on, but the climate control was actually on VENT!

And Grandpa told me not to open the window in his Ford Ranchero truck (the only luxury feature it had<strong> &</strong><strong> the</strong><strong> only</strong><strong> vehicle</strong><strong><strong> of</strong></strong><strong><strong> his</strong></strong><strong><strong> &</strong></strong><strong><strong><strong> Grandma</strong></strong></strong><strong><strong>'s</strong></strong><strong> that</strong><strong> had</strong><strong> Air!)</strong> <strong><strong>'</strong>cause</strong> he had the air conditioner on, there!

And by the time I got my '87 Dodge Charger, I think Chrysler no longer put their AIRTEMP A/C stickers on their cars...
