anyone here still using the old,big camcorders that use the full size VHS cassette?
-i have gotten some nice ones lately really cheap. 1988-'95 seems to have been the
main era for these-batteries are often shot,so far the ones i have gotten have all
worked good-just got a really nice hitachi from 1995 for $5.00!(batt was shot, but
otherwise in mint condition!)
My"daily driver" one is a GE from '94 -i use it to video threshing bees, tractor
pulls,airshows, car shows,and the like.When a smaller camcorder is desired i have
a VHS-c panasonic from '05,

I have 2....RCA's

I like them, you don't need special size tapes and adapters to make them work, I can use the battery or plug in direct, and I can run cables and playback thru the TV, or record to the VCR for 8 hours for an event.....

mine also have the hard shell case, holds everything, wide and telephoto lens, tripod, spotlight and wireless microphone, and 2 spare tapes.....

they also can be hooked up to power to use as a regular VCR, regular speed only, and charge the batteries at the same time....

VHS tapes are a lot cheaper, and easier to handle for me, better than the smaller more expensive ones....but thats just me

I also have a palm-corder too, I think its a Panasonic.....takes the mini-cassette....more of a pain to me, it takes still pictures with a memory card, but not record and take photos at the same time....

We have a Magnavox Video Recorder that we bought about 1986 or so. It uses a full sized cassette. It takes surprisingly good video, the video is nice and bright with strong colors.

We haven't used it as much as I thought we would. We took it on a few trips and over the years we may have used it a total of what, 6 hours or so.
Karen loaned it to a friend of hers for a trip to Hawaii and the woman somehow lost the hardshell case and the operating manuals for it. She didn't lose the camera or battery charger, explain that one! They thought they were going to get by with only a "We're sorry". Hmph!

So I told her and her husband that it was up to them to find a replacement. This would have been around 1991 or so. They got a cheap case for it from some camera store (the original was hardsided and had "cutouts" inside for the camera to fit into. The case they bought was a semi hard case with no cut outs. They wrote to Maganvox and they sent them manual for a similar camera, but not the same one.

I did use the camera around 2001 when a friend asked me to video their wedding.
I did and used the editing features and letter generator in the camera along with my VCR to edit the video. So even though the video everyone received was a copy they all thought the quality was excellent!

I have a GE VHS camcorder that may be similar to CFZ2882.Haven't used it in amny years-would suspect the battery is bad.Still have tapes I recorded from it.Probably still packed from a move.Looking at digital cameras to replace it.Like the HD better-to me the VHS system is crap.Glad its gone.
