Quiet Please, There´s a Lady on Stage
"This is BLAST FROM THE PAST! It is a fabulous collectible Vintage Frigidaire Electric Dryer. This had to be the Cadillac of Dryers back in it's day.

We acquired this at the estate of a 100 yr old lady that had purchased this new way back in the 1950's. It is in near perfect condition. She has lived in the present house for 40 years, so I assume this may have been moved once, and that may be there it received the one small scrape on the lower right side. And the heating element is out. Otherwise, it is in wonderful condition. The inner tub looks new, the cord looks new, the paint looks great - except for that one side scuff. The inner tub works & tumbles perfectly. It was recently used because of the light lint in the bottom. The control panel has the two knobs, temperature contol knob, timer knob, and on/off switch, and light knob. Everything still perfectly intact.

It is a gold color, I believe this came out the first year for colors, or thereabouts. There was green or gold colors available for these. This dryer has the front bottom lint vent. The water drips through there, you pull out the lower pan to remove excess water and put it back in. And use the lint brush to clean the lint holes out.

This has the lint coils in the bottom with pan for water drippings. And it has it's hard to find ORIGINAL LINT BRUSH, for cleaning the lint coils.

It measures 30" wide X 25" deep X 41 1/2" tall, including the back panel. It basically looks like new, except for the above mentioned. This is a wonderful vintage appliance!

This is PICK UP ONLY near Wichita, Ks. If someone wants it shipped, we can drop it off at a terminal in Wichita, Ks. if the buyer handles and pays all arrangements and shipping charges."

Sad but true Stats

I wish I did Bethann. Just like I find at the estate sales, Ebay shows the same sad statistics --- I've said for years that for every 25 to 50 vintage 1950's dryers, we see 1 vintage 1950's washer.

Robert, I put together who you were responding to. But I seriously doubt bethann has a beard and hairy body--although her husband ... And I was hearing those words coming from you as I typed my comment. We've commented about this in person and it has been said here many times before.

50's dryer rarity

I guess it depends on where one lives the number of vintage dryers that survive. Of course, it helps the survivial rate that a lot of dryers were sold in a particular area, so I guess this means not many dryers were sold in the 50's in sunny Los Angeles, because when I was growing up here, virtually EVERYONE had a washer but almost NOBODY had a dryer except for the "Upper Crust" folks. I didn't really notice dryers owned by the "common folk" until the Mid 60's. Of course, we had the "space" problem (no basements), here, too, so actually saw more combos than dryers

yes I agree about the lack of dryers in some areas of the country. They weren't plentiful in parts of the south which like LA had the climate for outdoor drying the year round. I think what propelled dryer sales (and dishwasher) was went women went back to work in mass numbers in the 60's and needed help with household chores. Since men were not sharing in this work like most do now, it all fell on the women. I remember my mother....

My 2 cents on old dryers

Well I drifted off the subject; I apologize. Dryers last an amazingly long time compared to washers, especially electric dryers. you periodically replace the heating element and Voila! It still works. I don't see why an old dryer should be retired except for the reason most people retire old dryers: new features and styling. There's really now reason to. Now washers can be expensive to repair with a transmission replacement or tub or whatever. But you all know this already.
