Never seen something like this before, pretty interesting, looks like it was never used.

Chase, a maker of high end housewares in the 1930s and into the early 40s, made these in chrome with glass food containers. They held water which was heated by an immersion element to keep small amounts of food hot on a buffet. They made up a line of highly styled housewares. Google Chase housewares to see them.
