Hi I'm sorry for maybe posting this in the wrong category.I've got this vintage gibson fridge made in usa its 115 volts the person I've got it from said the motor burnt out but I think it should have a transformer that must have burnt out.because we only have 220volts in south africa and on the rating plate and also the relay states clearly 115volts.the compressor is a heavy cast iron thing with 3 connectors in a row.how do I know wich one is common start and run?and lastly please tell me if I want to test, we have a 110volts shaver plug do you think I can try it from there??the globe inside the fridge is a normal 220volts globe its a normal globe so its not original to the fridge.please if someone can assist me with this one.I also have an electrolux absorption fridge but that's something for another day.thank you very much kind regards Ruan Fouche

run winding will be the least ohms, start winding the most(assuming the winding is good)when you find two terminals where the ohm reading is start and run added, the 3rd one will be common.Sometimes a compressor motor will ohm ok,but have a short between the start and run mindings-motor may run but will pull too much current and get hot and trip out the thermal protector(if fitted)

some windings burnt out

Some windings on the compressor burnt so only the start or running windings are still good.I think its the running windings that's still good.is there a way to use it that way?to start it maybe with a higher voltage and run it with 110volt?
