While recently surfing late one evening with the remote, I came across a vintage "Password" show on the Game Show Network. It was in black & white and appeared to be a very early show, with Ludden explaining how everything worked as the show progressed. Not like the regular running through the rules thing as on any game show, but more like an orientation for the viewing audience as well. Guest stars were the ubiquitous Betsy Palmer, and Dick Van Dyke.
One thing I noticed is that after the first round, the contestants switched sides as usual, and then there was a commercial break before they began round 2. When the show resumed after the break, the contestants were back with their original partners without any explanation for why. Weird.
I've never paid much attention to the GSN but might take in some more "Password" since the whole routine came back as clear to me as if the show had just gone off the air yesterday.
I might have to check GSN for other 60's game shows now, but it seems GSN runs an awful lot of commercials, so I may not last long.
