Found this little beauty on Ebay about a week ago. It arrived today. Perfect addition to my 1924 bath (with the addition of a GFCI). I'm guessing the heater itself is from the mid-1930s or 1940s up to about 1948.
The picture wouldn't look that shiny and defined if it weren't in perfect condition. Congrats, I had a similar GE in the early 60s but it didn't look that good and the element was intermittent.
We found a very similar heater this weekend from the around 1930. I had purchased a little heater at Target for the workbench in the basement the weekend before.
It really looks like a little sci-fi sun! From the look of the box the modern heater is a force air unit, while the old heater is radiant heat. Radiant heat is more efficient if you stand in front of the source.
Here's a pic of my Airking, found at a sale in amazing condition. It has a hammertone finish paintjob, and a rubber ring all around the bottom so as not to scratch whatever it's sitting on. There's a 3-position switch on the rear, OFF-FAN-HEAT. When switched to heat mode, the fan is slowed to more evenly carry heat from the elements. I haven't investigated whether this is a separate motor winding or a series trick with the element, but it's quite clever and works well! -Cory
