I was at The Factory @ Franklin today for a kids birthday party, and I thought I'd share a few pictures of some of the vintage stoves they used to make there.

Are they seriously trying to say that the Magic Chef at far right was produced sometime between 1955 and 1959?

No wonder they only got to produce it for four years, if they were flogging something that looked so much like a prewar-era design that late...

Sandy, certainly agree with you. I think the Magic Chef at the far right looks to be an early 30's model, while the one pictured with the polar bears is likely to be from the time period they were produced at that location. Why they show the earlier one, I have no idea, unless it was produced under the Magic Chef name by either Allen or Dortch.

Oh, yes, that's a pre-war Magic Chef. My Aunt and Uncle had a late 40's Magic Chef that was VERY cool and streamlined. Double ovens, and round red knobs. Methinks somebody did a boo boo. Magic Chef was a huge name in St. Louis, their president built a gorgeous home in the west end. To this day it is referred to as the Magic Chef mansion.

The cream-color Magic Chef

What you cannot see on the right hand side of the stove that looks overwhelmed by the fake turkey sitting on it is the Red Wheel oven regulator. The knob on the front turns on the gas to the oven, but the temperature is set via the wheel on the side. This was such a big Magic Chef patent that their oven thermostat knobs, even into the 70s, were a red dial. In the close up of the stove belonging to the Polar Bears, you can see it has a (faded) red oven thermostat dial.

Very much so, with the exception that all the knobs were red. I thought I might be mistaken, but called my Mom and she recalls all the knobs being red, as well. Their kitchen had the same linoleum as one of the patterns in an earlier thread. The memories this site brings back amazes me!
