Do you see the outlets on the oven's control panel? I believe that this oven CAN have a rotisserie, but the motor is on the front of the rotisserie kit and plugs into one of the outlets via a Fiberglass insulated cord that fits between the door and the oven cavity. The price would be more justified if the front were black or stainless steel.

Did the old Thermador's have a special control for it?

and this is why I have always liked GE ovens. The rotisserie is more than just a motorized spit; the GE ovens have a special control that operates the broiler unit at levels other than FULL ON. IIRC the GM Frigidaire and the Caloric rotis accessory used a motor in the back of the oven, but you had to rely on the FULL BROIL setting or, as on the Calorics, various BAKE settings. The best one was the Caloric side waist-high broiler with a built-in motorized spit. You could regulate that one nicely and best of all, it was gas.

Given the amount of interest in scratch cooking these days it's kind of unbelievable that the rotisseries haven't made a comeback on the expensive stoves. AFAIK, only the Gaggenaus and Mieles have them.

Thermador ovens with rotisserie

Tom is correct the rotisserie motor was at the front of the spirit and plugged into the outlet on the control panel I have one of these set ups that I use in my Thermador ovens.

The motor for the rotisserie actually just had a high temperature cord and you didn't close the oven when you use the rotisserie you left it in the broil stop position.

Thermador did allow you to turn down the broilers heat when using the rotisserie which was necessary to keep from burning things.

I believe on the Frigidaire Ovens when you plug the rotisserie spit in the thermostat took over control for the broiler element so if they also allowed you to have a lower than full broil setting when using the rotisserie.

On the more deluxe Frigidaire ovens with the BROILER GRILL control with settings from Well to Rare, you can dial down the intensity of the broiler element because with the Radiant Wall Broiler pan all broiling was done in the same rack position. Modulating the intensity of the broiler would work for the rotisserie since the rotisserie was only available on the higher end ranges.

Julia Child

Seems I remember a YouTube video where Julia Child was using one of these devices and I thought it odd that the cord came out of the oven and plugged into the front that way. Now I know why.
