No, it's a decorative accent that says "Custom Dry Control."

Tumble Speed selection should be changed after the machine is started, not before.  The belt is physically shifted forward/back on a tapered/grooved motor pulley.  The idler pulley is wider to allow for the belt movement.

Speed change on the fly? After the machine is started? How interesting..wouldn't imagine a design like that since, if you wanted to prevent balling up, why not make the selection before starting the machine? Again, learning interesting things all the time here.

The belt is put under some strain by the shifter mechanism trying to push it along the stationary pulley if the speed is changed when the machine is not running.  May not be a crucial factor being as there's no warning on the panel, but the mechanism works better.  It's not necessary to wait for several minutes until changing the speed, the motor gets running up to full RPM pretty much instantly.  Press Start, then immediately switch the lever to the desired speed.

WOW!

Goatfarmer, you never plugged the dryer in before?? With the faster speed for the sheets, I think this would be my automatic go to dryer just for the different tumble speeds! And the washer looks pretty cool too! I can't read the buttons on the washer but is that 3 buttons for agitation speed? Or am I reading that wrong??

Christina,

Yes, the machine has a 3-speed motor and provides High, Med, and Low agitation choices. High and Low spin.

The motor speeds are:
1,725 RPM = High agitate, High spin
1,140 RPM = Med agitate, Low spin
850 RPM = Low agitate (slower speed that 2-speeders don't have)

Medium agitate is the same as gentle on a 2-speeder.

When you decide to try them whirlies out, let us know how they do for you.

Thanks for the reply & the info on the 3 speeds. I think that is really cool!

I loves my 2 speed maytags, but these whirlies I think would be coming in at a close 2nd! Of course, I'm still waiting to use my frigidaire thumper, thanks to Ross, countryford/Justin, Roger, and Bruce. But that will be another thread I'll start when I get the frigidaire situated and washing.

Again those are really cool whirlies!!
:o)
