Ralph/Paul: Too funny.

I hope Robert, who manages this website, doesn't mind me posting these "out there" priced appliances. I do it for both display and the jewel sarcastic pokes. Paid my dues...can't hurt to have a little humor with a cup-o-joe. :-)

My Aunt Laura, the world's most picky person, had this same dishwasher in her kitchen but never used it. I remember wanting to look inside but was strictly forbidden to even touch it. She was a fanatic. I was forbidden to sit on my cousin's bed because she feared I would break the "coils" in the electric blanket! They moved from a small home in Santa Clara to an immense place in Pebble Beach. My uncle had a well-paying job. As crazy as things were in the old house, they got worse at the "estate". The home had 2 separate kitchens, one located at the rear next to the what was supposed to be a maid's room. The main kitchen with it's built-in Chambers appliances (the refrigerator was grouted-into the wall) was just for show...no cooking allowed. We visited once and were told we could not go in the huge step-down living room. My parents were not amused, but then on holidays at the old place we ate in the garage so no big deal. Aunt Laura was a very unhappy person.

Aunt Laura

Joe, your aunt and my aunt would get along, along my aunt wasn't quite as strict. My dad's family is Italian. A few of my aunts had the couches covered in that plastic, and the rug had a clear runner. It was all so anal, we weren't sure if it was ok to sit, stand, or float. I can't imagine not using that sink/dishwasher. And to have only a "hands off, do not use" policy? Those are the appliances one wants - if age hasn't broken them.

Yes Derek

I grew up in a German/Italian/ Polish neighborhood and many people had the same set up... The top of the line kitchen with the dishwasher was only for holiday use. The basement kitchen was for everyday use.

I bet in the town I grew up (Wood-Ridge) there must be many KitchenAids and other near new appliances there for the picking unless they have been thrown to the scrappers. Unfortunately I think the demise is the latter
