Good news for me-I am now back to work. The plant is owned by Radio Marti-broadcast to Cuba The plant isn’t broadcasting right now-there is a possibility the short wave broadcasts my be resumed at a future date The transmitters don’t like being idle. Me and the other fellow have gotten two transmitters to work. It has been confirmed VOA has gone silent and 800 staff members have been laid off. I and Macon feel fortunate that we are still working. Just keep the transmitters maintained. So hope it can go back on air again soon-maybe with two transmitters operating 8 hrs per day instead of 24 hrs per day as they used to.
A woman I worked with years ago was from Slovenia as was her husband. His brother was a big deal at VOA, but hopefully he is long since retired and dead. What an ignominious end to a famous, long time institution. Glad you still have a job.
