WANTED: early style KitchenAid 36" Grille for Built in Refrigerator

In the odd event anyone has one of these laying about, please let me know. Photo attached of style/shape for early (1989) model (Superba 36 built-in).

Newer ones *may* fit, not sure…there could be a difference in mounting points/construction. I know those differ stylistically in that updated ones are coved/half-round frames vs. the old one (flat/angular/rectangular).

I'm not in a rush…and will keep haunting Habitat for Humanity/Stardust/etc. Just hoping one of you has a spare or access to one that may be heading to scrap! I haven't bought the refrigerator yet, but will decide tomorrow after I've gone back to see how overnight run test went!

Grill for early KitchenAid built-in refrigerator

Hi Alan, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner I was in Paris all last week.

 

I don't have the grill for this refrigerator at the moment we probably would find one in the next year or two we still have a few customers with these refrigerators.

 

I would probably skip this refrigerator however it is one of the early ones that had a compressor problem it has been replaced obviously. Refrigerators like this that have the compressor problem often have additional sealed system problems in the future, plus you can no longer get the temperature damper system and other key components for this refrigerator.

 

If a customer already has a refrigerator like this we do our best to keep it working properly but I certainly wouldn't install a nearly 30-year-old built-in refrigerator where parts aren't available, but that said if you want to get it and play with it I would probably come across a grill in the next year so good luck with it.

KA ref Temperature damping system

Thanks for the message--I sure appreciate your input! Won't have my mind made up on this beast for a couple hours yet--about to run up there and check the temps, etc. after the overnight running it's had. Can you give me a brief rundown on the deal with "Temperature damping system" you mention on this model? Far as the grill goes, I won't be in a huge rush--haven't yet made any commitment to buy it (it's very affordable)…but for reasons you mention, I made them no promises…I just know if I'm gonna break my back moving it home it has to be cheap and running decently (for now).

Done deal...

John~ I Bought it today. $100 bucks. Stellar. Would have been a better deal had the grill assembly been present!

So, am bringing it home this weekend--but I hauled back all the shelves, racks, etc. for a light cleanup. All the interior bits are really near to factory fresh--most all has still got a very brand-new sheen on the finish. Hardly any sign of use on ANYTHING. Astonishing.

This unit hasn't had a hard life at all. I'm beyond happy with how nice it is. With both the Freezer and Fridge temp control dials set to straight up midpoint, the unit was at 3 degrees freezer and 38 in the refrigerator.

With luck, this will run fine at LEAST 3-5 years without needing anything (I hope)…provided nothing goes wonky during the trip home and all the handling it's going to get.
