Wanted: Frigidaire Jet cone agitator cap

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi Dominic,

Yeah, was a barn find. It had probably been sitting for decades. Surprising mechanically and electrically everything is perfect except for a bad spin bearing. It’s just the rust (which is causing severe leaks) and cosmetics that’s bad.

Hey Gizmo,
That’s awesome! I’ll definitely need to hear about it! really wonder how many are still out there. I looked for years til I found this.

that washer doesn't look bad at all!

i have 6 of these machines, one i even dropped off a truck and had to peice back together!

3 of mine work fine right now, 2 more are almost back together and one i picked up last year that has considerable rust in the tub. the tub on yours looks great!
these washers seem easy to work on to me and are remarkably durable. i clean rollers with alcohol and very lite sanding, i do oil the agitate arm, and the tub seals seem to hold up well. never had one leak yet. that outer tub is so big in relation to the inner solid tub that when it spins out water the level doesn't even reach the tub seal under normal conditions.

i did download the service manual for the 65 models from here, as well as the later 68 model. it was helpful.

will look for that cap this week.

I don't think the machine in the photos is a Rollermatic.

This is an Australian Frigidaire, made on the same site as the Holden car plant in Dandenong.

The one my family had when I was a kid had a Multimatic transmission in it, and the same jet-action agitator shown above.

I'm reasonably confident it was a Multimatic as I remember it having two drive belts.

Smartdrive1100, can you post any photos of the innards/workings of this machine please?

Rollermatic,

Thanks!

to me it looks pretty terrible, does still work though! the outer tub is pretty badly rusted and leaks when spin drain is in operation. it was left in a barn for many years so it got pretty bad.

That's a cool collection you got there! Thanks for taking the time to look for a cap.

Gizmo,

Yep, you're correct it is a multimatic in these. This one had the brakes seized so it wouldn't spin. After some fiddling it managed to spin right up and hasn't seized yet.

that's an old photo when I first got it.
