Wanted: vintage appliances in the Phoenix area

Hello, I'm new to the forum, and to the world of vintage appliances, but I also repair and collect old televisions, radios, VCRs, lamps and light fixtures, cars, bicycles, etc...

I recently bought a house built in '67, and I'm looking to fill it with appliances more-or-less contemporary with the age of the house. (It came with the original oven and stove - a GE P7 wall oven with separate countertop stove), so I'm looking for:

Washer (automatic)
Dryer (electric)
Fridge
Dishwasher

I'm not looking for any particular make or model, just something made within about 10 years or so on either side of 1967 and in nice condition. (A GE dishwasher and fridge to match the original oven, and/or anything in avocado green is a plus, but neither is mandatory.)

I'm particularly looking for the washing machine, as the newer unit the house came with quit on me. Thanks...

I picked up the Kenmore. It's not in the greatest condition inside, and the guy just had it sitting out in his driveway - but for $25 I figured it was worth taking a chance.

The lights come on ... but not the compressor. I'm going to look into it more, but if the trouble is with the compressor itself, given the condition, I'm probably just going to junk it.

Congrats on saving this refrigerator! Either leave it plugged in for a couple of hours and let the defrost timer advance itself to bring the compressor on or locate the timer and manually advance it yourself.

If the freezer fan and condenser fans run go to the compressor relay etc, if it is completely dead except for the light follow the advice in reply #5 and #7.

Nothing's on except for the light. I'm ultimately hoping to find something better, but if this is an electrical issue and not the compressor itself - I'm fixing it, not junking it (assuming I can get the horrible smell out of the freezer).

I spent nearly all day yesterday going to garage and estate sales, and thrift stores hoping to find some old appliances - I didn't, but I came back with some nice 1960s furniture and some parts I needed to fix a toilet.

Today I'm replacing some of the drywall in the laundry room. I needed to get in there to fix some wiring, and some of it was moldy anyway.

If you are somewhat handy, I believe the defrost timer is located by the cold control, in the back of the food section. Find it, it will have a place where you can use a screwdriver, to turn a shaft. Turn it, there should be a series of clicks. See if that gets it to start.

1978 Hotpoint Side-by-side Refrigerator

Hi!

I have a 1978 Hotpoint side by side refrigerator. It was used as a garage fridge. Let me know if you're interested in picking up or having it shipped to you. I'm not asking for any money for it, I just want it to land with someone who will appreciate it. I'm in California.

With an older refrigerator, definitely let it sit at least 24 hours in its new location before plugging it in so that everything in the compressor settles, otherwise you can fry it on a perfectly good fridge.
