Washing a vintage Pendleton blanket

I was just in Seattle for a week and went into my storage locker to find a few things! Most significantly my 70 year old teddy bear and his clothes! I also brought back my Grandparents Pendleton blanket that I know is older than I am and is need of real care! It's a bit smelly, off color and I can't ever remember it being cleaned or laundered! Where to start?
This weekend I dog sitting in a home with it's either Samsung or LG wash plate washers. Of course I'd never dry this in a dryer! Cold water, Woolite detergent full tub of water, but can I soak this? Of course DELICATE cycle, COLD water and slow spin and air/ line dry. What more should I do?

Tradionally, Pendleton blankets are dry cleaned although some claim they can be washed in cold water with mild a detergent on the gentle cycle. Line dry only, of course. I'm just not a fan of using/washing blankets under a minimum of 100F. Cold wash does not equal clean, to me.

Pendleton blankets should be dry cleaned. If you're willing to take the risk of shrinkage and or other damage it could be wet cleaned, but for something with such great sentimental value I'd opt for safest route.

Wet clean blankets all the time at home, have done so for years, but not Pendleton.

When I was a teenager I used to have a Hudson’s Bay Blanket that was 100% wool.  I washed it in lukewarm water in my Mom’s Maytag Wringer using whatever detergent we had at the time, which was usually either Tide or Cheer agitating it for about 5 mins, then let it soak for about 15 mins.  Then rinsed it in the laundry tub, ran it through the wringer and hung it on the clothes line to dry.  It didn’t shrink and retained its shape washing it this way.

 

I think that Pendelton blankets are pretty much the same as a Hudson Bay blanket.  I don’t know why it couldn’t be washed in cool or lukewarm water in a modern FL or TL using a short cycle with slow agitation and a soak for about 15 mins in a TL or bulky cycle in an FL, use a 2nd rinse and the slowest spin speed.  Then line dry it after stretching it back into shape.
