This is why I love the Bendix and Whirlpool Combos over the GE Combo. The GE does a great job on wool but it is a bad lint remover! It tends to glob up under the tub and hang around for the next wash as you will see in the photographic proof below.
I washed and put away my test towels from the extraction tests, well since they were new and cheap they linted profusely!
But in the GE all that lint hangs under the tub so when you remove the load you see a shiny enamelled tub.
Next I washed my good wool socks and you can see what happened.
Tape and steel brushes arent' working I have to pick manually and that sucks!
Anyone have a washing solution so I don't have to spend the entire weekend picking lint??

YIKES!!!

my first reaction would be to rewash them in something with a decent lint filter, like a filter-flo or a Maytag, but looking at that picture I doubt that would help.

A vacuum(such as Electrolux with sidekick) would probably do it, and not take too long.
Maybe even a dirt devil hand vacuum?

I'd probably just go buy new socks.

A Picky Subject...

Well Jon, I guess it depends if the socks are "pilled" or if the lint is just the "Clingon" variety. I'd stick them in the dryer again. Most of the lint should come off and gently land in your dryer filter.

If the lint won't budge...try washing them again (separately). If that doesn't work...I vote for the new socks too!

Time for a lint roller!

Hopefully such a thing will do the trick!

Jon, you might try one of those lint remover sticky tape roller things or one of the battery operated "lint shavers" that are sold around Christmas and then wind up in thrift stores. Maybe you should check the sump before washing lint attracting fabrics.

Just wear them as is. You probably get as much Al hair, regular floor dust and dirt on them as you have lint.

What exactly is under the GE tub that catches lint that the user cannot remove? Is it lint from washing or lint from drying?

Cling Ons

Try using a clean, dry sponge. The side with the scrubber works on the more stubborn lint. The lint shaver eats the sock fabric leaving "moth holes" and the rollers and washing don't do much once the lint balls become entwined with the sock fabric.

Louis! I love that 3-M Lint Roller! It got the plaid right off of that ghastly shirt! I'm getting one today to see if I can roll off those unsightly frown lines! ;-)

Very interesting, Jon. I've never experienced linting like this in mine. Which particular GE Combo did you use, since I know you have quite a few of them? ;-)

Young Man

You knew full well that the lint from the inexpensive
"test towels" would remain in the GE Sump and reattach to
your socks. Doing the same thing again and again and expecting
different results is often described as insanity! Could it have been "Satan" perhaps! You must spend the entire weekend
hand tweezing the lint nits from your socks!

Put tennis balls

into them, and tie a knot, and then let Al use them for toys?

If you have a belt drive Whirlpool with the brush filter, I'd try that. But only with the brush filter.

Other than that, my second choice would be a Maytag with a PowerFin agitator.

Good luck!

pilling ?

that looks like "pilling" which happens on some fabrics over time through wear and tear and the "pills" are like lint magnets. I have seen that on some upholstered furniture too.

Good tips THANK YOU ALL

I have the sticky roller from the Shop but the stitch eraser/shaver I think might leave moth holes, its too severe. These are clingon type linties!

Thank you Louis an embroiderer can't afford to walk around all linty so it may be new socks which was my thoughts exactly.

I have my Wednesday nite Ward coming over and she will be put to work so we will have results tomorrow either way.
