Since the mayor has already said he'll sign it and the District of Columbia doesn't let the majority terrorize the minority on issues of civil rights, all that could stop us now is if the christianists in Federal Congress found enough votes.
Unlikely, especially considering that about the time this would come up (Congress has 30 days to attack) the first gay men in Uganda will be strangling out their last breaths on the gallows - courtesy of the Republicans and christianists.

A very good day for us. That will make five states in January and, in March 2010, with DC, six sub-federal areas in the US where we are officially recognized as human.

This is fantastic news!!!

This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

So... does anyone know if and when these sorts of changes will happen to the Uniting American Families Act? Craig and I are now really keen to move over to the US - but I will only do it 'legally' as opposed to 'tricking the system'...

Cheers
Steve

Steve, don't hold your breath . . .

Remember that the US has always had a very strict distinction between state and federal rights. So far, gay marriage has been considered a state issue. That's wrong, and we all know it, but it isn't likely to change soon. I don't think it will until a majority of states not only recognize, but also allow gay marriage. That's going to take many years, so if you really want to come here you'd best figure out how to do it as two people and not a married couple. This is an embarrassing fact for gay Americans like me, but that's the way it is.
