We've had a 1959 Westinghouse dishwasher in the family since it was new. Until recently, we were using it from time to time but, the water pump motor finally gave out. Do any of you know where we could get a replacement pump motor?

I believe this machine has a separate drain pump, I have a 59 Westy in storage, I'll look and see for sure when I'm out in the storage unit today. If so, you should be able to replace the drain pump with a new one from another machine that uses a remote pump. Several dishwashers and clothes washers use these so it will just be a matter of removing the old pump and taking to the appliance parts store to find the best one.

model no and update

You are right this model dishwasher has two motors....one for the impeller and one for the pump. The model no is SPA22RW-1. I believe it is a 1959 but it could be '58. The pump motor doesn't grunt or budge.

The hoses were replaced about 15 years ago and are fine (WCI had them in stock). I should have ordered the top tub gasket and back plastic vent/hose holder at that time because I just looked at them and they leave much to be desired. I might have to do some fancy foot work with the vent.

The main motor, timer, heater, and racks are fine. Mainly this is due to the fact that it was rarely used. From the '60s through the late '80s, it might have been used a total of 20 times. During the 90's we did use it a lot in the summer because my grandmother was getting old and she found it an easy way to wash her canning jars.

Thanks for any help or advice.

PS...gansky1...saw your collection...very nice.

Thanks Jim (?) I was out at my storage unit today where my 59 Westy dishwasher is stored and flipped it over to have a look under her skirt. The drain pump is a separate unit and you should be able to make something work for replacement but the one problem you might have is the diameter of the intake port. The Westy seems large, like 1 1/2 inches but with some creative hose work, you might be able to make it work. Even if the pump must be mounted differently and in another location under the tub, something will work. Best of luck - Greg

thanks....vent tube, water inlet advice?

Thanks for the help on the pump search. I can visualize a couple, of those pumps suggested, fitting. Now, it seems there is another problem. The plastic on the vent tube-water inlet assembly is pretty much shot. What would you suggest I could do to replace or fix up this section which seems tailored to that machine? As you can tell, I'm quite green at this stuff.

water inlet

Can you post a pic of it?
That way, we all can see if something from another machine could be substituted, or the original one repaired or copied.
