Here in Michigan our lack of summer continues. I know other parts of the country may be sweltering but our furnace kicked in for a few minutes the other night. The highs have been in the mid to low 60's the last 3 or 4 days, and the lows in the 40s, pretty darn cold for mid July. No air conditioning bill this summer so far.

How is the rest of the country fairing?

That sucks.

We've been alternating between mini-heat waves and unseasonably cool weather. I don't much mind either, as the temps are staying below 90F and above 60. I got a late start on the vegetable garden this year (July) so I'm hoping the warm weather continues well into September-October to give the tomatoes a chance to ripen - if they ever happen. The beans shouldn't be a problem, and I had some sweet and some hot pepper plants that survived the winter (I built a tent for them out of clear plastic over the winter) and they are already producing.

Usually the temp indoors is about 10 degrees warmer than outside, so 60F outside wouldn't be an issue for me... I just close the windows to keep the internally generated heat (fridge, lights, appliances, etc) inside. But 40's in July? Too damn cold!

God....

Send some of that nice weather this way QUICK!!!! We're having one of the hottest summers on record since 2000. I am TIRED of seeing triple digit temps in the afternoon. Roasting in my car on the way home from work is NOT something I enjoy doing!

We've had highs in the upper 70's and low 80's here in Springfield, MO over the last few days...but it's supposed to warm back up again by Wednesday.

No Heat To Speak Of So Far

Mostly damp and or humid with rain or thunderstorms.

This past June set, or nearly set the record for coolest on record for NYC, and NYS, go figure. July is shaping up to be going the same as well.

No complaints here, as cooler day and night time temps mean less need for the AC, which translates into lower power bills.

Read something about an El Nino forming out over the Pacific, which could explain things.

You call the 90's a heatwave? lol well I guess in the Bay Area that would be. Just be happy you're not in the San Joaquin Valley where we had 110F yesterday and so far 107 today. It was even 91 at midnight lastnight. Yeah it sucks.

Yep, El Nino is here. I think that also means very wet winter for California, mudslides. It's miserable here and we desperrately need rain.

The mudslides we can do without, but we definitely need the rain.

I know the weather has been really weird and chilly in Minnesota, odd for Aquatennial time which is often excessively hot and humid.

We had a cool June here in CA, but now it's hot all over except here near the coast where it rarely gets above 80. It's rarely humid here though and this area and some other areas tend to cool off nicely at night.

Does the effects of El Nino and La Nina change when you cross the equator?

In Australia we dread the El Nino weather pattern as it means drought. We've been in a La Nina patter for 12 months or so in northern Aust and it has been very wet, however they're talking about a Swing to El Nino and dryer weather again.

We're having a lovely winter so far to date. Nice and warm during the day, cold at night. Cant ask for anything better.

You're right, Scott, it's been unseasonably cool the past few days. And I can't recall ever having to mow the lawn twice a week this far into July. This is typically a very dry time for us, but we've been getting rain regularly. All the lawns look fantastic down here in the SW part of the state. And I haven't had to water the garden for several weeks.

I hear on NPR (MPR, actually) that much of the state north of us is in a mild-to-moderate drought.

Very Pleasant in IA

Last week was in the lower 70's during the day, and into the 50's at night, don't need the AC at all. I think today's high is supposed to be 76 and might get into the 80's tomorrow. But I'm not complaining. It can stay this was for the rest of the summer!

Same here, this weekend it only got up to 70 and was cloudy. Sure didn't feel like the middle of July that is for sure. Plus the fact that we haven't had rain in ages and all of the grass is starting to turn brown.

We've had quite a bit of (much needed) rain this year compared to last year but it's hot here! Humid as well, June electric was over $300. This month will be worse, but I'm traveling the entire month of August and will only be here on weekends so maybe I'll get a break. I had no idea it was so cool in MI though! That's crazy to get 40 degrees in July... I may move there!
