I saw these for sale on eBay in the Sherman Oaks area. They are asking $150 but I'll bet they could be bought for less especially since that oven is gas. In a retro kitchen I think they'd look great. I love yellow, perhaps an "acquired taste" like raw oysters. What a shame to remove the cooktop and demolish that nice yellow tile.

Can someone explain to me how you add a link to an eBay or Craigslist item here? I've tried and can't get it to work.

Thanks so much :)

Wow, that's a kitchen worth dying for! LOVE the yellow!!

Highlight the entire ebay link, while holding down the "control" button, hit "C" (for copy). Click on "URL Link to share:" on this site and while holding the "control" button down, hit "V" (paste) to paste the link.

They oughta have their head examined! Can't believe anyone would rip that gorgeous stuff out! That porthole window is killer!

Charbee:

Don't you understand? Thass OLE. You don't want nothin' OLE in yer hayouse. You supposed to be 'shamed of havin' anything OLE.

What do you want to bet that the replacement appliances will have major problems within five years of installation, like a blown control board on the oven and worn-out ignitors on the cooktop?

you gotta love that oven window

It reminds me of old TV shows and movies like Lucy when she got stuck in the porthole on The Constitution... the late Gale Storm in "Oh Susanna!"... the window in the rocket ship in "Destination Moon"... and in general, "Titanic", not the recent film but the one where Barbara Stanwyck refered to her son Norman as "a vicious little prig."

Thanks for the link-posting instructions.

If they're replacing the set, I'd see if they'd throw in the tile, too. A little care and they'd come right off for cleanup and re-install. Getting proper yellow tiles these days is tougher than you'd imagine. Cory

NICE Kitchen! There is nothing wrong with yellow as long as it's in a period kitchen.

I believe the line that Barbara Stanwycks' 'Julia' says in Titanic is about their daughter Annette, not Norman:

Julia: Oh, what's the use? It's the same silly calendar year after year...Look at Annette!
Richard: I have, with great pride. She's entertaining, she's discriminating, she has grace and style.
Julia: She's an arrogant little prig!
Richard: So, you have chosen to drag her back to the glories of Mackinac Michigan...
Julia: Any town in any state becomes comic on your lips, but comic or not, that's where she's going. To a big ugly pleasant house, with the cheap scent of lilacs. Oh, don't worry, she won't turn out dowdy. She'll meet dozens of nice boys...

(If you couldn't tell already, Titanic (1953) hits high on my favorites list...)

Joe

I can't remember the name of the stores ; several in Palm
Springs, and a few other nearby cities I think, they generate
income for the Primary PWA Support Agencies in the area. I think there are at least two locations on Palm Canyon Drive;
anyhow several years ago (like maybe 10) one of them had the
two W-H Builtin Ovens in Stainless Steel that had been removed from Lucy and Desi's Palm Springs Home. I think they
were offered at quite a bit more than $150. I don't know if the surface unit was part of the deal . Some friends of mine passed, thought they were too pricey!!!

sorry Bugsey...

I just checked the film, it was her daughter, but "an arrogant little prig"...I'm not a movie buff. I need to be careful what I say on here...there be experts on everything lurking about.

there be experts on everything lurking about

Damn right, there be!

I will be checking every movie quote you make!

Just kidding.

I didn't mean to come off as a smarty pants. I'm sorry.

Not a big fan of retro kitchens, prefer to rip them out than look at them or live with them but that one I like. It could be a keeper depending on what the rest of it looks like...

That Western Holly kitchen is really nice-who would want to take that out and replace it with a new peice of crap?I would rather rip out the NEW kitchen and put in that nice Western Holly one! Many of the new ones should go into the back of the EZ-Pack!

Those Are Well Made

And they are the exact original oven and cooktop that we had in our 1955 all gas kitchen that I referred to in the gas refrigerator thread that's still bouncing around here on the board. Ours were the pink/band aid color. Yellow is much more flattering.

The cooktop is easily removed, it's solid as a rock and will last another 50+ years.

I just noticed. The knobs on the stove have been replaced. They should be the older type with raised flat section that you grab onto. It shouldn't be hard to find the right type.

bugsy...

Of course you weren't a "smarty pants." No need to apoligize. You're just one of the many intelligent and talented people on here. If I could only have one "channel" on my computer this would be it. It's great fun and everyone is so cool and friendly.
