I can't seem to take apart my Westinghouse blender. Other than maybe the Iona blender in my small collection, all the other blenders dis-assemble to clean.

On the bottom of the plastic jar, under the metal collar that fits onto it, there's a "OFF" and "On" stamped to suggest removal of the metal collar to clean. As you can see, I removed the blade easily. I'd just like to thoroughly clean it, because it looks like the seal was slightly compromised. I've tried using warm water, baking soda, or even dawn soap to coax out the aged whatevers, with no luck.
So taking it apart is the only avenue. I've turned it with grip gloves, tapped it with a rubber mallet and nothing is moving the round metal housing that is labelled "OFF" and "On" with directional arrows.

Does anyone have one of these or knows if this can be disassembled? The OFF/ON has nothing to do with making it work, as this jar just sits down easily on the rubber "gear" and that's it.

Any ideas? Thanks all. :-p

I recognize that style of jar! My beloved (and now out of service due to bad bearings...) 1964 Monkey Wards blender has a jar like this and that metal ring at the bottom should definitely come off. The 'on' and 'off' just mean which direction to turn to loosen or tighten the ring. I'd try pouring some hot (not boiling) water into the jar and let it sit. Then try to loosen the jar...

Paul, you're the man! Thank you! I know I'm losing my marbles sometimes, but this just didn't make sense. Ok, I'll try your idea!

Will let you know what happens...

Phil ;-)

Thank you - it's not perfect looking, but I like it alot and it runs so well. I haven't taken it apart to mess with the motor.

Do you know, is there a compatible glass jar for this? I'm sorry it's plastic.

I've never seen a glass version of this type of jar, unfortunately. I never knew who made 'em either! I have what I believe is an early 60s blender called a 'Jet-Blend' that has the very same type of jar and blade assembly. All I can recall about it was that the model plate said it was made in California...

I have seen glass carafes/jars if you will, that fit onto this kind of coupling to the motor, but nothing that I know of that would allow me to use the black top. No biggie, but it's something that might come around, later. Manufactured in California? Hmm. Not Ohio, eh?

Success!

Jet Blend- now that's a coooool name.

I got it off! It took a hammer, though and no brownie points for getting it off without some nicks - but it was ON there.

This bring to question- are we missing something in a glue that is all natural food based? This thing was so glued to the rubber "washer", it reminded me that maybe there's a plant-grade glue like a super-glue, yet to be created? Ok, I get half of the proceeds if someone figures it out -haha.

Photos of the results, and thanks again, Paul.

Surprise tonight

While cleaning that stubborn part and using a metal polish on it, another part fell away...to reveal two parts. Note the substantial crud(first photo) that had built up from not being cleaned. I wonder if they ever cleaned it?

Not that this will probably ever help anyone out - but again, Paul..thanks for confirming that it would twist out. It looks and smells so much better(photos 2 and 3)after cleaning with steel wool, metal cleaner and cleaning with Dawn dishwasher soap.

The blade attachment looks quite different from the ones in the Panasonic/Vornado blenders I have seen (and there were quite a few different models from these brands too).
