Now that's a nice fridge! (A Westy DaveAMKrayoGuy never

How does that "Chill Compartment" work? Isn't there a door you pull down & set a timer for?

Is there a light in there for it, too? (Normally there would be two light bulbs for the refrigerated food compartment above the door, so maybe there's just one in this case? The lighting for the remainder of the "fresh food" section would have a bulb under that plastic cover above the area under the "Quick Chill Zone"...)

Westinghouse SxS

Dave I do not remember a timer. You are correct about the glass door that pulls forward and flips down on the top shelf. You can see the leading edge of the door in the pic with both doors open. You can also see one of the glides in the shot with the fan and cold control. You can set a jello mold much faster in this area with the door down. My family in NOLA had one years ago, it was perfect for setting the obligatory "Shrimp mold" when entertaining. alr2903

Well, a CONSUMERS REPORT buying guide issue was where I read of there being a timer & that's what I saw in that ad in the pic...

And I how I got introduced to this feature, as well as seeing a Westinghouse "Multi-Zone" Side X Side refrigerator in a library appliance reference book (or just simply one for sale that I never bought) which had an all-opened door well-stocked model in a black & white photo...

The door to that compartment in my CR book (circa 1974) was described as a "garage door" as in it slid down in segmented panels & was likely to be a hopefully well-insulated & maybe transparent plastic... But a one-piece tempered glass (also well-insulated) would probably also be easy to depict (though not a particularly long-offered feature, most-likely due to inherent complexities & costs)...

This would be a fun fridge to have.
Does anyone know how reliable these were?

There where probably many versions....

This is the one I remember. Sorry about the quick scan quality.Dave now I see the blue timer dial in #3 down in Mopar's ad. Brent My cousins lasted about 20 years, she raised 3 kids so it was well used. alr[this post was last edited: 4/10/2013-23:24]

I love the visual fan on the fridge side!
Growing up at some point we had a GE with the fan in the freezer on the left hand side of the freezer compartment. I used to love to open the door and press the door button and watch it blow the ice cold "fog" air out into the freezer. I got yelled at many, many times for doing that.
The Fridge part had the coils at the top of the refrigerator. I used to love to hear it cycle off then open the doors and watch the frost melt and drip into the container, then run down the back of the unit. It was not "energy efficient" because of me!

(A Westy DaveAMKrayoGuy never saw in REAL LIFE!)

Well, if I'd paid more attention to the myriad array of appliances at SEOVEC, a vocational "satellite trade school" students in the local S/E Michigan area would get transferred to, I surely might have seen a fridge like this as one of the repair projects (of which like everything else, the school sold!)...

It looks like the lighting for that compartment might be from the light below, which lights up the remainder of the refrigerated section...

(More pics by that seller are needed!)
