What’s wrong my KitchenAid washer now?

Help Support :

That's puzzling. I guess now I'm nervous because I'm starting on rebuilding my 1990 KitchenAid now that the new tub support came in, and I went ahead and ordered a new set of upper and lower snubber pads. Maybe I should keep the old ones if they're in okay shape, which they seem to be from the initial test runs before doing any disassembly.

Could you try cleaning all your pads and the contact areas that they rub against with a strong alcohol, as well as the brake bell under the tub support? It seems like the brake is also slipping if it's letting the basket move slightly, and maybe there's just enough slickness somewhere to allow more movement than designed. That's the only thing I can think of from what I see in your videos. It's understandable to be worried about it doing that though, because over time it could stress the cable connections or yank your water level tube out and end up leaking out all over the place.

“ If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”

Greatest line of advice in the history of the world. Strongly advise you not to replace your pads. In my case two of the old snubber pads cracked when I remove them so I could not put them back in. I took some rubbing alcohol and clean the new pads then filed them down with a low-grade sand bar. That definitely seemed to help and I don’t get any unusual noises unless I load up the basket And even then it’s not too bad it’s just something I’m going to have to live with.

When I got this machine about a month ago I had no intention to take it completely apart however it was extremely filthy and I couldn’t bear the stench every time I opened it up. Upon removing the wash basket I discovered it was severely rusted and corroded and the tub support was shot as well. I could not remove the brake tube assembly so I had to purchase a used tub support from eBay which was in excellent condition (part number 280184)

I moved the machine out to my shed today because I’m still very frustrated with it. I actually might sell it because I don’t think somebody who doesn’t know these machines is going to find the noise unpleasant. I’m hoping I can find an older model such as the one you have with more option. I would also take the higher version of the one I have with the speed control, variable water control, and automatic temperature control
