My favorite washer is personally the Maytag dependable care following the direct drives from Whirlpool. I also like Speed Queen washers and the GE Filter Flos.

I now own a direct drive and it’s a great machine I’d still love to get a dependable care. The reason why my username is “Maytaglover68” is because Maytag was my favorite brand.

The two belt Raytheons

Followed by the Maytag Dependable Care.

Whirlpool Belt Drive at number three

Whirlpool direct drives with dual action agi at number four

GE Filter Flos at number five

Hoover Keymatic, is another one that could be in my top 5 but I've never used one in person so I can't say for sure.

Mine are...

1. Helical drive Maytag (specifically the center dial 06, 07, and 08 series models)
2. G.M. Frigidaire Rollermatic
3. Westinghouse (later WCI) TL design
4. G.E. Filter Flo
5. Whirlpool Direct Drive

the maytag commander model j

hell good folks, I saw this thread and had to express my feelings for the vintage maytag wringer washers. I have more than a few brands of wws in my collection but the most rugged and my fave is the maytag model j. its my work horse washers and I have never seen a more rugged ww. the others in the family are included the master and chieftain of course. I like the model j so much that I have another one on reserve with a friend of mine in vernon ny. thanks folks, the drycleaner

I’d have to say Maytag is my #1 pick, second would be a Whirlpool belt drive which is TOL of course.

Maytag is #1 for reliability, Whirlpool is in at #2 since a repair will need to be done every now and again. Though, will last a good while when you baby them and use plenty of detergent which prevents mineral and gook buildup.

Hi all.
I suppose that my Maytag model A482 ranks up there with being a favorite washer.
I think it was built around 1984.
I forget what transmission is in it, the last time I have the front case panel off was 20 years ago to inspect it.
I've never had to replace the two belts, I assume they are original, since it was in the house when I moved in.
The matching dryer is also going strong, needing only a new selenoid coil for the gas valve about 15 years ago.

I also have (as a backup) a 1980s Sears Kenmore "apartment size" direct drive washer with the rotating corkscrew agitator, and it too served me well through the years.
It even has the cute softner despenser for the top of the agitator.
