I was just wondering what type of laundry detergent you recommend for oily and greasy stains because sometimes we have some clothes that have some gasoline or kerosene or something along those lines spilled on it. What type do you recommend to get the the greasy smell out of them to get it out so reply is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kitty

double wash..

First wash with dawn dish liquid, then wash with tide. First wash warm, second wash hot.

And for the love of all that is holy, never dry anything that still smells of oil, kerosene, or gasoline. That smell is flammable fumes. Maybe too weak to be dangerous in an open room, but in the enclosed space of a hot dryer, an accident waiting to happen.

I second to try the double wash

But I tried recently excelsior laundry detergent. I love it. I never used the double wash technique yet but in this type situation I'll try dawn however then I'll take my new excelsior to the challenge.
@vintagekitchen thanks for the tip.
Here's a link the website to the company of excelsior along with other products.

Depends on your Machine:

If you use a top-loading washer, then you'll need a warm pre-wash phase with some detergent and soak for a while before draining, spinning and adding more detergent for a HOT wash (longest time) and high-speed agitation. Use a good quality POWDER detergent... Powder cleans the best and is quite cheap in bulk sizes.

For an FL machine, depending on the style of machine (US or EU), you need to set the machine for a "Hot" wash with Pre-Wash (Tub will be cool, so you'll get a "warm" wash).

Then, on EU machines, select a Boil or anything north of 140° for the main-washing period, extra rinses etc to really rinse your detergent out, since you WILL have significant loading for this cycle.

For US FL machines, Hot wash on a "Whitest Whites," "Steam," or "Sanitize" cycle (or you can use modifiers on a default cycle if you have them). If the machine has an extra rinse option, USE IT. If the machine lacks a water heater, manually do a Pre-Wash in Warm-Hot water, cancel the cycle and reset for a full HOT wash. Purge the closest hot tap to ensure best results.

On ANY machine, unless you want to waste additional time rinsing clothes between the washes, DON'T use lots of detergent for Pre-Wash. Only about 1/4 or less of your regular dosage, since you are soaking or only gently agitating for a little time. Save the detergent plus oxygen bleach/bleach for the main-wash phase (The latter can be added at the END of the wash to save enzymes). Keep the dosage high for the soil level and remember your extra rinses so that you don't get a rash from detergent.

Thx, y'all! That should really help. Our hot water temp is 120 degrees F. I'll try that and update.

"used Sears Detergent for years...heard it's gone n

I just sawa variety of their brand, some a week ago at Northpoint Mall Sears - but noticeably, lesser amounts are being shelved - so maybe they are moving away from retailing it? Bought some a few months ago, because some people here found they liked it - and some don't ...but curiosity won and as long as it's mixed well before adding to laundry, no problem with residual white clusters of soap.

P&G guy here

Tide HE Powder
Tide Free and Clear

Have used Era with Ok results
All free and Clear did ok as well
Sear's was ok
Wisk was a little too foamy (yes more than Tide)

Fall backs if I want to feel things are as clean as can be, Tide.
