ok im going to be very honest and tell the truth. Im a big girls blouse about SPIDERS! I live in a 120 year old house and there are loads of big ones. Any bigger than a 20p piece and im out the room quicker than a Chav that knows Lambrini is on offer at Kwiksave! After 5 minutes of calming myself down I get the hoover (I should say my Electrolux upright vacuum cleaner for those who talk posh) out, whip the hose out and add extension tube and the really long crevice nozzle and go after the little critter. Then i have the complex of "how the f... Will i empty the dirt drum, in case its still alive? So the hoover gets dragged outside next to the bin where i empty it as quick as possible without looking at the contents inside. . Job done time for a large scotch!

Something about spiders ....

Hmmmm. Last Sat & Sunday I attacked a horde of spiders in my garage using much the same method ... and I'm also wondering WTH I'm gonna do about dumping the shop vac... not that I'm particularly terrified of spiders, but they are kinda creepy.

Awww you wicked men

I love spiders and they are so good for the garden. I find them fascinating and their webs are beautiful. I never try to kill them. Have you seen the 1973 version of Charlotte's web? I cried for days when that spider died.

However, anything that can hurt you frightens me, like wasps for example. Then I am a big cissy.

Rob

i'm not really scared of spiders, except the ones that can kill you. Redbacks and Whitetails over here are quite numerous, you have to be careful and not leave clothing on the floor unless something creeps into it. Huntsman spiders are BIG and light coloured (anyone who cares to go on google and do an image search will see what i am on about) i dare not post any photos on here for people who have a bad fear of them. Last week i caught one above the handle on my laundry door, a good hefty whack with a peice of wood saw that one off to spider heaven. As for my real phobia i am scared of heights and being trapped. As many of you know i had a period where i went through night terrors and so my deepest fear is dark figures, faceless silent, scares the hell outta me. I also hate being alone at night, its not nice because theres noone to talk to and your imagination can run overtime in a dark house.

oh to funny.. i hate bees and not happy about spiders.. they want to come in the house in spring and fall.. the dog is afraid of them so i have to chase and kill them.. in the midwest we have wolf spiders the can get up to the size of your palm and they are hairy and i swear the growl at you ha ha.. just wait till the day comes when one lands in your hair eeeeekkk

Insects not a problem------

Every spring and fall I go to Blowes and purchase huge bags of Diazanon granuals, and any other bags of serious poisons I can get my hands on and I scatter them all under and around the house and yard.

After all these years of living in a "toxic waste dump" I hardly ever see an insect around here unless upside down.
I have recently seen an eight-legged toad though.

Oh, I almost forgot----

Since the effects of "global warming" has changed Atlanta to a much warmer climate---those nasty "flying dates" ("palmetto bugs" to those of you from Florida) have infested Atlanta neighborgoods.

They look just like a giant cockroach----except they can fly. NASTY critters.

Every now and then one makes it inside my house alive (but not for long) and the chase is on!
They have a tendency to sneak into your bed in the middle of the night, and dart across your face or head if you make any sudden movements. Sure to create unusual sound effects on my part. Then you have to get the light on quickly so you can hunt it down and kill it before it surprises you again. Another nights sleep disturbed.

Oh, BTW, armadillo's have migrated into the Atlanta area over the past few years!!!
Tom---can you imagine that-----Armadillos in Atlanta!
My, how times change!

My biggest fear

Totally unrelated to bugs, except bees and wasps. Doctors, dentists, needles, hospitals, anything to do with medical stuff. And the irony of it all... I married a nurse.

That 8 legged toad

Might make you enough money to buy another appliance if you sold it on evilbay!

LOL

Bugs!

I should have stocked up on Diazanon before it was removed from the market, it was the best at repelling crawling bugs. I've seen nasty creatures in the house that I've never seen before and could weave a small handbag from the cobwebs I've knocked down, even with a professional exterminator paying a visit now and then in addition to the bug-bombs, sprays and potions I've sloshed around the property. I have clients that don't believe in using chemicals to control insects. Several have tried the Hedge-Apple trick to keep the spiders out - placing them in the corners of every room, etc. These "natural" attempts do little or nothing to keep insect infestation at bay, but they seem to work well on elephants - haven't seen one! Next year, I'm going to have a monthly service - no more of this nonsense! Statistics say that the average person is bitten by spiders several times a year, most often in their sleep!

There are other fears of course, being a parent, you sometimes lay awake at night worrying about all sorts of horrors befalling your family, but day-to-day, it would have to be the insects!

I hate creepy crawly things too...

republicans - racist, scandal riden, fear mongering, sexist, fiscally irresponsible, truth blocking, global warming deniars, fox news propagandists, drug addict limbaugh supporting, job deporting, piggy mouthed blame-game playing, gasoline price fixing, corporate scandal plagued, divisive, election fixing, war creating, cheating, power hungry, blatantly lying, hypocritical, christian delusional, pedophile- republicans

creepy CREEPY !!!

Is there an aerosol or hopefully environmentally friendly solution to this liability?
A good dousing with A fair non-corruptible election on machines that are transparent and not owned by a corrupt corporation, sprinkling a bit of a Fairness Doctrine for Media reinstated, and finally cleaning up with publicly funded elections.

spiders? not so much.

I agree with everyone on the whole roach/spider thing...while I'm not exactly TERRIFIED of them like some, I still get freaked out whether I see one and kill/get rid of them immediately. There's another bug that's 100% nasty in as well and probably the worst offender for me...resembles a fat walking stick, but gives off a pungent, nose-burning odor when touched. Thankfully I haven't seen those around here. I'm not sure of the actual name, but they're nowhere to be found in the Texas bug book. Anyone else ever see these? EWWWW!

When I fogged the Studio this summer, you should have seen the aftermath! 11 dead roaches on the first day, and then they started appearing face-up on the ground a few weeks, even months, after that. I believe the total count so far is 31, although now I don't really see them as much as I did; perhaps they're all dead!

(And, although I voted for independent Kinky Friedman in my first state/local election this past Monday (the Austin Co. Courthouse had early voting), I am most decidedly a Republican, more like an extreme right-winger, and I'm VERY opinionated when it comes to certain issues. Whether I'm creepy, hypocritical, or racist...well, I'll leave that up to you to decide. Keep in mind, though, that A. there are other Republicans on this forum, and B. some of the things you said hold true to Democrats in my book...)

Austen, according to your profile your 18 and I'm sure your intentions are sincere.

"Keep in mind, though, that A. there are other Republicans on this forum, and B. some of the things you said hold true to Democrats in my book...)"

I'm sure there are people who are Democratic as well.

One of the problems with republicans, I have found, is their thinking is usually skewd. Doesn't make sense. "I vote republican because my parents did" or "our family has always voted that way" or "they seem like the good people" rational, doesn't cut it. It's amazing how screechy repubs get when facts are brought to thier attention they know don't make sense. I have "traditional" republican relatives too. Times have changed though.

While it is true that at one time in history republicans were socially and fiscally prudent, those days are LONG gone. republicans today are, well... see my original post. What counts is what is happening TODAY. do you really want to be part of that?

When it comes to Real issues affecting Real Americans the most republicans can do is distract, yell, blatantly lie, talk over, and exhibit pointless competitiveness. No real solutions because TODAYs repubs are so incompetent.

Your young Austin and, unfortunately, from one of the most corrupt states in our U.S.(check the record- the S&L scandal, Tom Delay, home of the Enron scandal, illegal redistricting, environmental concerns, bush jrs. home(burn that brush and ride that bike and I'm to wimpy to meet with Cindy), and on and on...) so I'm sure your exposure at this point is rather biased. No one is perfect.

I am Progressive and Proud of It.

I Expect better things for our countries future. The status- quo is not acceptable.
Our country can do MUCH better than what it is now.
We can't "Stay the Course" as the wheels are coming off the wagon. Hello.

Wishing you well.
