This will be an awesome sight to behold! It will definitely be neat to see!
Two moons on August 27th, the whole world is waiting for it.
Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.
It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.
This will culminate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth.

Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am.
It will look like the earth has 2 Moons.
The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Share this with your friends as NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again. If you were planning on being on Earth that day anyway, give a heads up.

Mars will be impressive at about 25 arcseconds across ( the biggest since Neanderthal times)
But by comparaison the full moon is 1800 arcseconds across.

So someone has their facts wrong. in a telescope it might look as large as the full moon but not with the naked eye.

Ah, I remember...

The Mars thing in '03, everyone was standing around outside and passing around my old WWII-vintage mil-spec Binoculars (complete with artillery sight lines!) because they were the most powerful we had on hand. Fun times, everything stopped that night.
