Language barriers

These are exremently funny, but go across languages, cultures and you get even more interesting ones

a Columbian friend living here on Long Island near me on "Delano" Street which in Spanish is "...of the anus"

Or my granny busting out laughing when the announcer on her Greek radio program announced that she had an advertiser in an intersting place in New Jersey and that she HAD to say the following word, then she said "We are all living here now (US) and we will NOT quibble about having to say it."

Moonachie, NJ means a "Little/Young/Junior/Cutsie"
...See You Next Tuesday
in Greek.

I've never been, but

I've wanted to go to New Prague, Minnesota for a long time. I hear it's pronounced "Pray-ge."

Near Youngstown, there's Poland Ohio, and a western burb of Cleveland is Parma.

The town next to me is Ravenna, and I live on Mantua(pronounced locally as "Manniway.")

Me? I was born in Akron, and have lived here in Kent all my life (so far.) With an interruption for college, but that was just 30 minutes north of here, and in the same county.

Lawrence/Maytagbear

Place

PISSCATAWAY, NJ LOL

Omps WVa. (a little unincorporated hamlet not far from Berkely Springs on RT. 522)Pawpaw WVa.
Accident Md.
Feeding Hills & Hungry Hills Mass. (both right outside of Springfield)
Truth or Consequences NM. (yes it was named after the game show of the 1950's if memory serves it was the hometown of the host Ralph Edwards)

Note here in Fairfax County we have a subdivision called Mantua that was built on a farm of the same name but here in Northen Va. we pronounce it MAN-TO-UH

This is a little comunity a couple of miles from where I live. Its just one little store like Druckers on Green Acres. My Grandmother used to live across from the store, and the band I was in practiced in a old school building behind the store. Eric Clapton had a peice of a video filmed there a few years ago. The rolling stones used the store on one of there last posters and wore there T-shirts on tour. Just a little place in the middle of nowhere called Skullbone, named so because of bareknucle fighting events that took place sometime after the civil war. They were told to have had some of the best fighters in Tn. some of my ancestors were named in an article on the comunity.

I am originally from Little Rock, Arkansas. We used to go to a festival called "Toad Suck Days" in Toadsuck, AR. Now the festival is held in Conway.

There's a Boring MD. Never been there, for obvious reasons...

Right now, I'm packing up to move to Newfoundland.

Sing along with me, won't you? "Oh, I want to live in Dildo..."
