I have been using Itunes for the last year or so because someone gave me a free Ipod shuffle. Well, a couple of days ago, I went into Itunes and my entire library was wiped blank. I called Apple and they said they have never heard of this before. If you google "Itunes erased my libraries", you get a ton of hits, so this seems to be quite a problem. I spent 99 cents per song, and now they are all gone! I was never happy with Itunes anyway... I couldn't play CDs made on Itunes in my car and I couldn't transfer the songs I got from Itunes to my computer so I could burn them from Windows Media Player.

Does anyone have a better option for how to get music online? Do you use Limewire or Aires or something else? I have a co-worker who told me about Aries, but I'm scared of getting a virus from places like that. Also, if I use a different resource than Itunes, must I get a different MP3 player than my Ipod Shuffle?

Thanks!

I have not ever heard of that type of problem. I have issues with some of my play list being moved around but i think its something i do wrong. I have never tryed any other online music service. You also said you could not burn discs and play them in your car? I have burned losts of discs and played them in many different players. I also have a CD burner on my home stereo, offten times i will take music from itunes and upload it to my home stereo. The car i have now has a USB port, i rarly listen to CD's in the car anymore. The ipod goes in the glovebox and the radio controls it. I will have to keep watching this post to see what others are recomending and using.

I have heard people say they like rapsidy (sp?)

Once an mp3 is burned onto a CD (read only) it should last as long as the CD can hold data. Which means at least 25 years. So I don't think the problem playing the mp3 cd's has anything to do with your iTunes problem.

Me? I get my music from CD's and vinyl which I transfer to MP3's to play on my 4 GB Sandisk mp3 mini player. I hook it up to a speaker system at work to have music in my work area. As yet I don't have a way of hooking the mp3 player up to my car; I will probably get a cassette insert or FM converter for that. But since my commute is about 30 minutes each way I'm not too concerned. I might try transfering MP3's to CD's but am in no hurry for that.

More details

My car is a 9 year old Accord (has factory CD player)... it WILL play "homemade" CDs made on Windows media player. It will NOT play songs made on Itunes, though a regular CD player (the kind that isn't in a car) will. And it certainly doesn't have the hook up for MP3 player! The problem of Itunes wiping my library for no reason without warning, and the problem of my car not playing Itunes made CDs aren't related... you are right, Sudsmaster. They are two separate problems... which is a great reason to abandon Itunes altogether.
