Greetings everyone. Kevin from Dallas, TX here. Long time lurker, and first time poster. I've had a fascination with washing machines for as long as I could remember. Going back to childhood, I would just watch the washing machine do its thing.
Long story short, I've always been on the lookout for the Whirlpool belt driven washer I grew up with, and I finally found one less than a mile from me on the Facebook marketplace. I was estactic and scooped it up immediately.
Knowing this machine was well over 30 years old, I know I would have to put some elbow grease into it thinking it would need a deep cleaning. So following some internet research and a few YouTube videos, I removed the agitator, spin basket and got to work cleaning the outer drum. After an overnight soaking with some CLR & water I managed to remove 99% of the buildup. Now I'm seeking advice on what to do about this rust. I've been reading good things about POR 15 and I'm thinking it would be best to go over the bottom on the entire tub and the shaft.
Is that advisable, or should I just go over the rust spots? I know there are a lot of pros here whos's done this several times, so I'm hoping for some guidance and advice on the best way to do this. Or if you're in or close to Dallas, I'd be willing to hire you for your time and experience. Please see the attached before and after photos. Thanks in advance
