Hello everybody. I have a Whirlpool Gold dishwasher, model GU2455xtsq1. I'm interested in the specs in this dishwasher. First, what year was this model manufactured? Second, what was so great about this dishwasher? Third, where was this machine manufactured? And fourth, who made the pump assembly - the main wash and drain pumps and where were they made? How many of you noticed that this dishwasher sounds like a GE potscrubber during the wash cycle? If anybody has this model or similar to this one, please let me know. Thank you.

WP Gold Tall Tub DW

These DWs were made in Findlay Ohio where WP builds all its DW brands [ WP, KA, MT, JA, and most KM DWs ], WP built the pump assembly, they sourced the main motors and the little drain pump.

I do not see or hear any similarity between these DWs and GE DWs, but I guess that you could say all DWs sound somewhat the same, LOL.

Then that makes my Kenmore Elite its cousin,  bought May 2007.  And given I had a GE GSD1200 Potscrubber before this, there is no similarity of sound between the two.  Two totally different sounding beasts.

The amount of sound you're hearing may indicate a lower tier insulation package. These models typically had an active vent that closed during wash periods to contain noise, but if the spray can be heard prominently through the door, there may be very little padding inside the door itself.

The Voyager dishwashers were/are great designs. They really were "updated" versions of their PowerClean predecessors in how the pump and filtering system worked. The only trade offs were that the taller tub and slightly less powerful motor, paired with less water per fill, meant longer wash cycles. They worked out a lot of the issues within the first few revisions, and they ended up being extremely well performing and reliable dishwashers when taken care of.

I ran it today...

I ran my dishwasher today, and the wash pump sounded like the GE potscrubber during the wash cycle. If you listen closely, you can hear the hum do to that fan of the wash motor. I believe it's the pitch of the wash motor when full of water is higher than the GE potscrubber.

I remember when I had a Kenmore dishwasher built by GE. It would clean anything. Unfortunately, it lasted 4 years. Next, I had another Kenmore dishwasher. Except this one was built by Whirlpool. I remember it sounding similar, at least the main wash motor. This one lasted 3 years. My Admiral/Maytag dishwasher sounded different. My 2007 Whirlpool gold sounds like my Kenmore model I had back in 2004.

wash cycle sounds

Hey combo52, I believe what makes my '07 Whirlpool Gold dishwasher sound like the GE potscrubber is the main motor running during the wash/rinse cycles. Mine has a fan. The motor seems to built tough when used and running properly. Oh by the way, mine has a hard food disposer. You can clearly hear the pump motor during main wash.
