Pull to start, push to stop timer

I noticed on the close up of the timer it shows PULL to start, PUSH to stop. I thought all Whirlpool washers of that vintage were PULL to stop, PUSH to start just like the Kenmore washers.

My mother’s friend had that exact same Whirlpool washer. We were visiting her friend one day. The washer started jumping all over the kitchen. She ran over PULLED the knob out to shut it off.

Just wondering if my old brain is playing tricks on me. I’ve always had an eye for details no one else in my immediate friends and family didn’t have.

Peace and happiness in your daily walk of life!

Thanks for the memory, Gregory

The very first Whirlpool of my life was my beloved Aunt Margaret's mid 60's Whirlpool dryer, featuring the narrow oblong box just like the ones in your link.

The dryer had a glass window in the door, tumbled very rapidly, and made a distinct long single note woooooo sound, a bit high-pitched, owing I've learned to the fast blower necessary to dry a load in a reasonable amount of time from Whirlpool machines spinning at only 550 rpm's.

With Margaret's laundry arriving from a 900 rpm Easy Spindrier, the mighty whirlpool made quick work of the loads. To this day, it remains the only drier I have ever loved and coveted.

Did you go after these machines, Greg?

The first two Whirlpools I remember ever seeing had the same control panel aesthetics as Jon's 67, but with the small control box like the featured set above. One was my neighbor's, which was a 67 model as it had the short lid handle. The other one was my grandmother's 1966 24 inch with the longer handle. Hers did not have a water level selector though.
