who else has a new ge range

i had to replace my 27 year old ge electric range (that i totally loved) due to it having some sort of short and oven and burner error codes. i didnt trust it since high heat and shorts can be a fire issue. so i got a new ge range since i had such good service out of the old one. it came today and i already have three service problems

the storage drawer i cant get adjusted. the back burner was not installed properly at the factory and what worries me is i baked a pizza in the over set at 400 and the glass cooktop gets so hot you cant touch it with out burning your finger. who else has a new or newer ge range. do you have any issue with the unit getting to hot to touch

They were such a great company until they ruined their filter-flo washers and the rest of their appliances.

My GE electric range is 2 years old now and I’ve had zero problems with it. The stove top has never gotten hot while the oven is on, that is unless one of the burners is also on. It does get pretty hot though when the self cleaning cycle is running, but it cools off fairly quickly once the SC cycle has finished.

This is the fourth GE range that I’ve owned in the last 30 years and I’ve always been pleased with each of them. I have to say that my current GE range is my favorite so far. I really love the smooth cooktop. It’s the easiest electric stove to keep clean that I’ve ever owned. I’m sorry that you are having so many problems with your new GE range Christopher, I wouldn’t be happy either if I was having the problems that you are experiencing.

You should call the dealer that you bought it from and request that they return it to GE and provide you with a new replacement. The left rear burner is a real problem and I’d be concerned that there may be other issues if that burner was so carelessly installed, totally unacceptable! My last GE electric stove was a coil top and shortly after I got it I found that the right front burner control wasn’t functioning properly, the heat couldn’t be controlled from high to low effectively. I called GE and they sent a service tech out the next day and repaired it to my satisfaction and I never had another problem with that burner.

Chris I hope you are in process to ideally have the stove replaced. I think that misinstalled badly aligned burner is a safety hazard and also indicative of poorly installed or missing oven insulation,I don't think a warranty technician is able to deal with the oven insulation problem nor would he want to basically disassemble the range in home when obvious several factory problems. The burner misplacement will hopefully enable the appliance store to quickly replace due to safety issues. I hope they resolve this quickly for you.

i called the dealer first they set up a service call for tomorrow. they said thats what i have to do first. i love eddies white stove. my old one looked alot like that. it was 400 extra to get this stove in white. something isnt right so will start with the service person and see what goes . thanks for the advice i knew i wasnt all that crazy

New GE smooth top electric range

Hi Christopher, congratulations on your new range. The left rear burner that’s dislocated as an easy fix when you see how those are made you can see how this can easily happen. It’s really not dangerous but certainly not good to have it in the position where you’re not expecting the heat

Not sure about the hot top. Is it hot toward the front or toward the rear? I think they’ll be able to figure that out maybe the oven vent came dislocated and shipping, the range was handled that left rear burner or maybe the oven vent, which comes up through the top of the oven and to the control panel . The storage drawer issue should be fairly easy to fix, unfortunately storage drawers in ranges are so cheaply built today. A little bit of shipping damage will keep them from working smoothly without some attention, it sounds like the stove might’ve been handled in a rough manner.

I imagine you got rid of the old stove, but did you look into having it repaired? Normally if a customer has a product they really like we advise them to repair it unless it’s just too old, ranges are not fire hazards in general about the house range cannot suddenly turn itself on and burn your house down , there’s just nothing flammable there.

I have the profile induction stove that's near going on 5 y.o. The control panel looks the same but I have touchpads rather than knobs for the elements. Had no problems. The glass top doesn't get hot when I'm using the oven. It's a convection oven. Perhaps because your element is off center that's where the heat is migrating up from. The storage drawer on mine is shallower than what used to be normal and I will say it that it seems a little flimsier than older storage drawers. But overall very happy with the thing

service tech was out

well the certified ge service tech was out. got the burner put back but cant anjust the storage drawer cause the unit itself either came off the assy line crooked or the unit was dropped. but he had the cook top off and the way this stove is built it has no like in zero insulation on top of the oven so he turned it on and the top and the door handle get so hot you cant touch them. so went back to the appliance store and talked to them. this unit is going away on monday and i picked out a higher end kitchenaid. so i sure hope this does it. but the ka is a better lookin unit

I’m glad that the dealer will be taking this defective stove back. I hope that you’ll be happy with the KA stove, it’s a nice looking stove.

Be sure that before the installers leave that you’ve checked each burner to see that they all are in the correct position and function properly and also turn on the oven and the boiler too to be certain that they are functioning as they are supposed to too.

yea fingers crossed. i figure the ka is a little higher grade that a whirlpool. in the store its definitely more solid. and better finish. oh well live and learn

Sounds like it might have been dropped to me for the drawer and that element both to be outta whack. My oven door has that same venting up behind the handle and it never gets hot at all. So something wasn't right about yours imho. Nor does the glass top even if the oven is on for a couple of hours. Mine seems very swell insulated.. was that one a convection oven?

the one going back had convection and reg bake and broil. the more i think about it this ge has no insulation between the oven cavity and the glass top and all the wires for the cook top are right there. thats gonna be a melt down fire issue for sure. i just want the new one to be right. it will get used every day

My GE stove top doesn’t get hot when the oven has been on for hours just like Pete said about his GE. Nor is there any appreciable amount of heat that escapes from the vents under the door handle. However when the SC cycle is running the stove does get fairly hot like I said before.

Hope your replacement KA has no issues, you’ve had you share of problems already and when you’ve spent the big bucks for any new appliance you expect it to work flawlessly from jump.

NO insulation on top of the oven!?

That’s INSANE! Especially when you consider that self cleaning ovens hit above 900 degrees in the self clean cycle. I can only imagine what that would do to the wires for the surface elements over time. Do you think it was a bad design or a factory defect?

Looks like a really great range, and enough that I would like to think it suffered mishandling issues before I would fear that the quality is under Haier-attack…

Such is the case of past to recent GE modernizations in that I thought for the most part the unwelcome evolutions of the once proud brand by new ownership tyranny and government regulationing that their ranges (which like past ones, were most preferred and must bought…

And even being if I were to go electric that this very range is what I would want to own) that their ranges were still best rated and for near every part basically left alone…

Sorry to hear about the GE. I recommended one to my grandfather for his cabin recently and if the insurance company paid for one, hope it also wouldn't have any problems like yours. But I am curious to hear how your new KitchenAid turns out cause now my grandfather at his house needs a new stove. His old Magic Chef has seen better days. Logo since faded, the clock display no longer works, there's a crack in the window, and we can't fully clean off the burners anymore.

New GE range

Hi Christopher, yes that range was obviously handled roughly because of the storage drawer problem and the heating element that was out of position. I think I would for another GE range, hopefully the KitchenAid range will work out well, but whirlpool and KitchenAid definitely don’t do as well in ranges as GE.

Of course it’s probably too late now but since you liked your first GE range so much I would’ve had it repaired or fixed it yourself when you have an appliance you really like that’s not ridiculously old.

When you get a new Appliance or something today, there’s no guarantee it’s going to be as much to your liking as the old one was, we have people call every day and ask if they should repair something or if they should buy a new one and we take the product history also the brand history but most of all we ask the customer if you really liked the Appliance Consider fixing it if you’ve always hated it don’t bother fixing it. Get a new one try something different.
