Since we have covered several brands, here is my favorite and why I think its the best... N O R G E ..It never was the quietest, nor the most popular, the brake sounds like beating two pots together, and it will oversuds, now why, you may ask do I think it is the best...Put in a full twenty pound load of greasy grimy mechanics work clothes, turn it on ,and when you return, they are clean, well rinsed and not tangled,The Whirlpool is good, but note quite as good, the maytag is ok,with a 8 to 10 pound load in the large tub, but put in about 12 to 14 pounds, and what you started with on top will still be on top, the Norge will consistently outwash just about anything and is as good as the others, Kelvinator-Frigidaire and Philco, are its only competetors in my opinion.

I do have to say that the Norge built Wards washer I just picked up DOES move the load around very aggresively. The agitate noise isn't that bad but I'll bet I could quiet it down with a little sound padding inside that cavern they call a cabinette. I had asked a question in the thread about spin speeds. What kind of RPM's will the Norge Wards get up to? I don't have any literature on it to tell me.

My cousin Pat was a boiler maker before he became their unio

But for years and years he and his wife swore by their Norge. When after many years, their Norge bit the dust and they couldn't get a new one, successive machines never cleaned his extreme work clothes satisfactorily again. Because of them, my first purchase was of course, a Norge.

Worth mentioning is that you could get a really low water level on those machines--perfect for a load of socks or just skivvies. And wow does that agitator whirl, its real power unmistakably visible at low water levels and yes, almost frightening.

I believe there were they only washing machine with a full horse power motor.

If I could have only one more washer, it would be a fabulous Norge under any of its badges, speaking Burpalatoresquely, only.

I wanted to show you this the othernight, when you said OH MYYYYYYY but I messed up. here's the Norge at rest.

FABULOUS WRINGER

THAT WOULD BE IN MY LAUNDRY ROOM !!!! I would love to find one, the only reason im not using a Norge now is my husband...who never complains about anything...was always fussing about his clothes being worn out, so im now using a B.D. Whirlpool.

Ya know, the agitator base has all the requisite holes to ta

so I wonder why they never opened up the neck in the wringer "Noge's"-- as Gyrafoam calls them--allowing them to squirt too like their automatic cousins.
