hello to all would love to have advice from speed queen expert to convince my mom when the time comes or if duet washer dryer set is beyond repair to convince my mom to switch to speed queen washer dryer set my mom wents to stick to front load but in canada they only have the top load model and went to convince my mom to consider we switch back to a top load this is the model i have in mind

plus since i had exema and my skin is sensitive to strong sent i think it woulkd remove more detergent if we went back to a conventinal top load and clothes would smell less like the detergent sent after the wash plus aspecaly with a cat its important that pet hair be efficently remove plus i like the fact that i can manualy select water level on the washer plus also like the warm rinse option if i need to do a warm wash warm rinse plus i also like the soak and pre wash option can be done with the main wash i know its long term but it needs to be tough of snce curent set is 16 years old and love the fact that its 7 year warrenty rather than just one compared to other brand of washer dryers thank you for all the good advice

I would recommend the SQ TC5 over TR series

I would watch videos specifically from Lorain Furniture and Kirk Rivas. There are some other good videos too, but these two do reviews on several brands of washers.
Both SQ top loads will wash office wear and slightly soiled clothes well. However, the TC5's wash action will work better for workwear, sports uniforms, gym outfits, etc. It's wash action will also turn over and wash a bulkier item like a comforter better. The TC5 classic design may not have as many features, but sometimes less is more especially when it comes to reliability. Less is more is one of the reasons I opted for the most simple top load I could find.
 
Top loaders have become such pitiful jokes these days that they should just die off already. If it isn't garbage build quality (Maytag 575), then it poor performance with substandard build quality (Speed Queen TR Series) or extremely restrictive controls (Speed Queen TC5 Series).

None of these are excellent rinsers unless using a 2nd rinse which is wasteful. Spray rinses are either very brief or nonexistent. I don't think a top loader made today does a warm rinse, perhaps someone can comment on that one....don't hold your breath. Same goes for a prewash...I don't think they exist today. Soak cycle...maybe, but I think the user is the soak cycle. Top loaders with a decent filter ended decades ago, no top loader made today filters pet hair.

Find a front loader that includes a heater and multiple rinses, like a 4000 Series LG.
 
I have owned the Maytag mvwp575gw for

almost 3 years now, and it is not garbage.

Personally, I wish I could still buy the old Maytag that has the dual action agitator and the transmission, but I can’t. I don’t have someone like Kirk or Eugene around me that I know can rebuild the older ones, or I’d purchase a used one.

The Maytag I has the dual action agitator but a control board has replace the mechanical timer, and it now has the vmw build. The SQ TC does have a transmission, but it also uses two control boards now that replace mechanical parts (timer and one works in conjunction with the transmission). I agree with you that the older models were better made.

The public is led to believe these design changes were due to new DOE requirements. The only energy cycle on each of these washers is the Normal (Eco). But apparently it take a computer board to make sure cold water is added when hot is chosen, and they don’t want the user to be able to tweak anything like they could with a mechanical controls. The other reason is like everything else (printers, other appliances, car batteries, etc.), they make them disposable versus with quality parts where they could last longer.

The OP above asked about SQ, so I addressed that. I think the SQ TC5 is the best overall durable new top load one can buy today. However, I think the Maytag is the best overall cleaning top load one can buy new today. While it probably won’t last as long as the SQ TC5, I’ve had no issues with mine. It’s dual action agitator moves clothes down, in, and through the water just fine in the wash or rinse cycle. How do I know? Because I have used it for almost three years now in a kid and pet friendly home.

The real garbage top loads are the one that not only use a cheap build quality, but they don’t even use enough water to cover the clothes, lack agitators (impellers seem to only work on smaller loads and with smaller items), and restrict the water temperature. Whites needs hot.

I’ve also had the front load. I prefer a top load like the OP.

I wish SQ still sold that model. I was hopeful they would bring back the AWN432 after the TR series initial launch failure, but SQ didn't. I'm just not sold on the new version of the old classics whether we are talking about SQ or Maytag. I'm pretty sure I will buy at least two of the Maytags I have now to last me as long as the real old style Maytag would have given how it is used in my family. I expect to get ten years out of the one I have now whereas I could probably have gotten twenty years out of the older model if I had known then what I know now. At least the one I have washes like the old fashioned one. It really does do an excellent job. There are some budget Amana and Roper models too with a dual action agitator. For someone who uses them correctly, they probably will last as long. However, I would think the control board in the Maytag is probably a better quality or would hope so.

There is no energy savings when one considers these appliances wind up in the landfill much sooner and the resources needed to produce new ones.

My only consolation is that at least the SQ TC5 and Maytag mvwp575gw can still clean clothes. Most of the others just can't and don't due to restrictions in water, water temperature, and design. While these do use control boards instead of mechanical timers, they are more basic. The SQ models probably have the best, well tested, and longest lasting electronics. With my model, it shares many of the same parts with their sold for commercial use washers. That can bring down price and make it easier to find. However, the vmw design just isn't a good design for commercial because people overstuff washers, put stuff in them they shouldn't, use too many chemicals, etc. Too bad the SQ had to throw in that extra board along with the transmission. I will probably try to get the SQ TC5 if I find out it is going to be discontinued. I do think it's overall better made. With any top load model I can buy new today, I just feel like I am making compromises :-(.

There are some good front load designs that will clean clothes well too with less water. The main tradeoff for me is time to complete the cycle, they were harder for *me* to repair, and they didn't last any longer. They also tend to have a lot more electronics.

Please post back about what you decide on and why. SQ has improved the TR series since their initial launch. The electronics will give you more features, but the cycle times are even longer now (I think???). The agitub design still doesn't seem like it will work as well for bulkier items and heavier soiled clothing. For some customers with different needs than our family has, that won't be an issue though. Durability wise, I can see where the different design might have fewer minor repairs and last longer compared to other brand washers.
 
Mind Boggling Fact

I think I paid $650 for a PAIR of what would be one of the best Whirlpool model washers and dryers made in the 90s. I paid more than that for just the Maytag mvwp575gw I have now, and I'll be lucky if it last half as long.

Yes, wages have went up but not in proportion to the cost of things.

I would gladly pay even more than I have for the Maytag mvwp575gw to buy that same type of washer today.

I feel the frustration that washers just aren't made like they used to be and we are left choosing between compromises, and some don't even work for their intended purpose at all!
 
From the Huebsch website the TC5 is available in Canada but oddly doesn't appear on anyone of those websites I linked above. You would probably have to order one. They're damned expensive too. THe price difference between the US and Canada is absurd considering all other brands US or foreign aren't anywhere near that. Anywho,, I wouldn't go with the toploader and would rather have their front loader if it t'was me and it's near twice the price I paid for my LG 3700.
