Would Stronger Computer Security Software Be A Good Idea Now?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

It will be

implemented, and much is already being. Any attacks short of an EMP can be helped kept at bay. It's not only Iran. China as well. I know of GM people whom live and work in Shanghi. The internet, and TV goe off and on at the will of the govt. as all is censored. The average Chinese person has been brainwashed not to think for themselves. You can tell by what is going on in Hong Kong.
While Iran is a foe, it has escalted since 2017, with the canceltion of the deal agreed to then by our former admin. The monies were their ceased assets from 1980. Eliminating their top military chief may have been necessary, but it's tit for tat.
Sad but true. Iraq get it's natural gas, etc. from Iran. Iraqui Americans are concerened for family yhey have back on Iraq, so they had a local vigil yesterday at the counculate for the dead Iranian as a gesture of compassion. Iran is an ally of Russia, also a foe, except in 1977 when they were starving, and needed our wheat. Russia backed Iran in it's war with Iraq in the 80's. We the USA backed the Shea, who also oppressed the Iranian people. So with their revolution, and the Yatola's dictatorship, it began escalating. He also Oppressed them.
Now they can threaten to attack Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia again, Israel, etc. if they in fact were the ones who blew up the oil refinery late last year with drones. You can bet that an attack on Israel will not be tolerated. Winners? perhaps none.
It does seem to me that we are at the same point in a way as with the weapons of mass distraction case in the 2004 election year, following 9/11, and the second war with Iraq. Americans became afraid to vote a change at the helm. Some tell me it has all been manipulated again. It nay be possible all of our serive members lives lost, injured in Iraq, etc. has been for naught. What a world indeed.
Will we all ever learn from Hindsight being 2020? That is the year in fact.

Tom, for individual/home users, I feel that proper usage caution is more important.

The city computers at the county seat of my birth-area got infected a couple years ago with one of those file-encrypting malware things.  IIRC, one or more users were tricked into clicking a link to change their email password or some such, which led to a fake or infected site that unleashed the attack.  Seriously confounding that anyone nowadays wouldn't know better, especially working in city/government offices.  The police and/or sheriff depts were networked-in so also got hit.  One of my cousins works at the appraisal district, they're separate and weren't affected.  She said the attack was directed at TX (or maybe US) counties with a particular word in the name.

Political notions dispensed? Or am I not reading this right?

Yes, you never know when some sort of national diplomacy is violated and you just may become a victim, accused of starting some sort of war activity, even just in the midst of playing some humble, online computer game...

I have serious concerns about the smaller communities systems.  They often do not have the money to update and maintain their systems. I bet there are a large number out there still running XP. Easy targets for the vast number of hackers out there.

Personally I feel relatively safe running all Linux based machines behind a firewall on a a quality router, but as of late even thee systems are under attack.  They are much more secure than Windows machines, with patch after patch after patch and who knows what in the vast codes that run Windows 10.  Having run one of my systems on Win 10 for a few weeks over the holidays to access the controller for my holiday lights I realized just how awkward that system is.  Thankfully I did find a way to run my controller under Linux so next year I will not have to deal with Windows at all.

No system is hack proof but I'd run from any Windows based system at this point.

Like boogler-proofing anything, if someone is determined to get in, they will.

If the Chinese, Russians, Pakistanis, Ukranians and a host of 'stans haven't found you yet, firing up the Iranians probably won't make any difference.  Just don't click on any 'funny' links and you should be fine.
