A pic of the machine. It looks kind of faded on the front panel, but I've actually seen this on all old Maytag washers.

What's Up With the Buttons?

Does anyone know why these Maytag buttons come off so often? My LA 208 had one missing (now replaced, thanks to the miraculous Kenny, a.k.a. goatfarmer), and most vintage 'Tags seem to have one gone.

I've looked at them very carefully, and THERE'S JUST NOTHING TO GO WRONG WITH THEM, unless people are pulling them off.

What's up with this? Anyone know?

Buttons Popping Off.

This always happens with the load size selector buttons on aging Maytags. The reason is that when a new setting is selected, the button for whatever the former setting was, pushes back out with quite a bit of force; more so than the the buttons for speed and temperature. Over time, with this being repeated constantly, the glue, or whatever holds them on wears off, and likewise, the buttons pop off. Whenever it happened with ours, my father would krazy glue them back on. I guess in other cases, people don't bother, and just do without.

Have a good one,
James
