I'm renovating my kitchen and I'm buying an 18 inch dishwasher. I've heard that the ZLine brand, made in Ohio, is better than Bosch. Anybody else have any experience with "the Porsche of dishwashers?"

I was a little miffed when I found some stores that sell it don't do haul away or installation while others do--I thought that was a given.

I can't say for sure, but these look a heck of a lot like an off-brand chinese design from the control panel that had been sold over here for a couple of years...

See this link (even though it's German you can just navigate down the pictures):

Hanseatic is a budget brand, that machine retails for something equivalent to like 370$.

Sure as hell no match for a Bosch...

I would opt. for a Bosch.  The Bosch also give you the option of choosing a model with a 3rd level cutlery rack rather than flatware basket in the lower rack.  And that would significantly improve the capacity of the 18" dishwasher.

I would do everything possible to avoid installing an 18" dishwasher.  Too few choices, both now and at replacement time.

Z-Line 18" DW

Is just a popular Chinese built 18" DW, you can buy the same basic machine from WP, KM, GE, Danby, Frigidaire and probable a few others. In fact you can find these DWs for as little as $300 if it does not have a major brand name on it.

I totally agree with post #3, I would not install an 18" DW if there is any way to come with 6" more room and then install a real DW [ Best bet overall today is one of the Maytag DWs ]

If cost is no object and you must have an 18" DW get the Bosch or a Miele machine, just keep in mind that the first time it breaks you may be replacing it or spending around 1/2 the purchase cost and a lot of hassle trying to get it fixed.

I will add to others comments, get a 24" if at all possible.  I have to believe any competent kitchen designer could come up with a revised plan to squeeze 6 more inches in to allow a full sized unit. Have a relative with an 18" WP in his cabin, while it does a serviceable job, it's not something they are happy with.  I'd opt for the GE under-sink 24" version before I went for an 18"

Speaking of the under-sink GE, I considered getting one for the apartment. I'd seen them a number of years back on GE's website and they sold a shallow-bowled kitchen sink designed to be paired with the specialty dishwasher. They no longer carry the sink. Guess that was one of GE's cutbacks.

I'll add my voice to the choir: If at all possible, get a 24" dishwasher!
