Zanussi ZFL1023 Jetsystem videos

I finally managed to get the house to myself today so thought it was time to get some videos of my latest arrival.
This ZFL1023 was manufactured in November 1989 and was part of the first series of Jetsystem machines and the last series of solid tub machines.

The first video shows the start of a 60c cottons wash. Programme 'B' is selected for cottons and the temperature chosen using the other dial. This also switches the machine on. The first few minutes are mainly used to sense the load. Little water is used during the wash, much of the water being eliminated through the use of the Jetsystem and the heater being underneath the tub in a plastic container. Water showers through holes in the drum and the drum paddles.

After a few minutes the heater is switched on, tumbling increases and the spin-wash phase starts. This incorporates a spin of 500rpm every two minutes until the cooldown. This aids the Jetsystem technology and helps to squeeze dirt out of the laundry.

End of wash

The spins continue throughout the wash and the level of suds has increased. If too many suds are detected during a spin it is aborted and the Jetsystem pump switches off (which you can hear in this video if you listen carefully). Once the speed drops the pump comes back on. This method ensures the suds never get out of control!

At the end of the video the machine starts to fill for the cooldown phase...

Cooldown phase

The third video starts by showing the washer filling for the cooldown. The second of three water levels is reached. After a couple of minutes the water drains accompanied by anti-clockwise tumbles. Once the water reaches the lowest level on the pressure switch the build up to a short spin commences.

On this occasion one spin burst is provided, but if there are too many suds present, the machine will stop and allow excess to drain before continuing with a second burst. This often happens when washing a full load of towels.

A the end of the video the spin slows for the first rinse. The third water level is now reached...

First rinse and drain/spin

The first rinse is four minutes long. After the first two minutes the Jetsystem pump is switched off for the remainder of the rinse. This is followed by draining and another short spin...

The second rinse is shorter than the first and third, the Jetsystem pump being on for the entire duration. The final rinse is shown here with a nice and high water level. Draining is then followed by the start of the final spin...

Final spin

The final spin consists of two minutes at 550rpm, 2 minutes at 850rpm and a final 2 minutes at 1000rpm. The bearings seem to be a bit noisy at high speed, I might get them replaced soon.

The spin is followed by a short anti-crease phase during which the door unlocks. This enables the door to be opened as soon as the washer finishes... no waiting around.

your vids are superb - really interseting viewing. Totally love the spinwash parts of the cycles.

The machine is fantastic and I am so pleased it ended up going to a good home. I watched this machine sell and very, very nearly bid on it myself, I was that impressed by its looks and condition.

Another treat, to finish the week with.
What an insane week of laundry finds and occurrences this week has been!

Hi Paul, thanks for your kind comments. It's been a busy week indeed!

I still have the 9534 and Z9191T and hopefully for many years to come, I really have no room for any more machines now. When I came across the ZFL1023 I had to sell our only 'new' washer, the Siemens.

I'll take some fresh pictures of the ZFL1023 and post them tomorrow, the last ones I took aren't brilliant.

Excellent vids tom! I really do love these zanussi's. I'd love to the drum paddles! I didn't know these ones had holes in them! Like my fj1033 has. But it has the current zanussi drum while my wtd1061 has the same as yours.

What detergent did you use for this load!?

This has to be your fav machine right? lol! I love it!

Thanks for the videos. They are great. What a lovely machine. My gran had a Zanussi washer dryer this style but not jetsystem. Your model has great styling and I love the water levels. I don't remember my grans having that high water levels but I guess it may have done.

Hi Darren. Glad you like the videos! I used Sainsbury's Bio powder for this load which I believe!? is a McBride product. I like it because it rinses well and smells old fashioned.
There are three holes in each drum paddle as can be seen in my photo below.
Yes it is my favourite machine now!

Hi Mark, yes the styling is particularly smart, especially with the full filter cover at the bottom. The early Jetsystem machines used a higher water level than the conventional Zanussi washers/washer-dryers of the time.

I would like to add that I think Zanussi should have stuck with the above drum, the design is much more pleasing to the eye than the current one!
