Fisher and Paykel washer combined heat pump drier

So after weeks and weeks of deciding, I have taken the plunge and ordered the new Fisher and Paykel 18kg washer with 10kg combined drier. Not cheap but I really figured I deserved a new machine. Hope it will arrive in the next week or so.

Which presumably means it's a Haier ... Haier owns F&P since 2012 and GE since 2016.

There is a very similar Samsung model here in Australia but doesn’t have the slanting control panel. Similar spec and cheaper. Just don’t like the look of it. Probably Haier too

No, that Samsung is a Samsung.
The F&P is the Haier Design.
The LG HP combo is the only one that hasn't crossed the pond in any way yet.


The US general review is that both can perform well.
The Samsung can dry a bitter better in general according to reviews, but the F&P has a full detergent drawer compared to Samsung's mostly only auto dose option.

The F&Ps UI however allows you to select 3 dry levels compared to the GEs quite limited UI - so even if drying lacks somewhat, you can always select a more dry option in a second.


Quite interested to hear your review - we here in the EU are kind of waiting for some competition to Samsung's version and even though Haier has registered a version of theirs with the regulators, we haven't seen any trace of it yet...

My sister recently ordered the GE Profile heat pump combo. I don't know if it's been delivered yet. GE has another combo, but I think it's only a condenser dryer, and the drying time is much longer. I don't know if either is from Haier.My sister in law has had the Profile for 2.5 years and really likes it.

New full size F&P combination washer dryer

Congratulations can’t wait to hear how you like this machine, it’s obviously the same basic design as the GE machines we get here from China.

I like the styling of this version better with the more squared off style to the control panel.

This Australian version is a cold fill machine so it has a heater, of course for water heating. We have sold several of the GE versions here and so far people have liked them, my only concern is this is one of only about two washer dryer combinations ever built with a slanted tub. I fear that it will tangle things in the dry cycle. You can get away with a slanted tub in a washer somewhat but there’s really never been clothes dryers built with a slanted tub for obvious reasons.

The price in Australia is certainly higher, you could buy three of them in the US for that price, I do know of one home in Bethesda, Maryland that has 2GE side-by-side in the laundry room.

I’m not sure which one I will get, but I’m anxious to try a heat pump combo in my laundry room, right now I would probably get the GE unit from what I’ve seen here.

Gee . now that we know it is a GE/Haier machine, not sure whether I should say good or not because Fisher and Paykel had a bad reputation in USA.

Reply number six, while the Samsung machine looks similar it’s not the same machine at all first of all if you look at the specification, the GE machine is 28 inches wide not 27. It’s an entirely different machine.

TBH I dry everything in the dryer except sheets and underwear. Sheets don’t do well and just ball up and the elastic in underwear doesn’t do well in the dryer. It loses its elasticity.

The F&P Washer/Dryer arrived on Monday. It is a beast, had to take the door off to get it in to the laundry room. Only done 2 loads so far, wash and dry and very impressed. Huge massive drum. Touch Screen control panel is not very intuitive and have to keep referring to the online manual to figure out its various functions. Still got lots to figure out yet. Will post photos etc at the weekend.

Just went to the website, over $6,000. Can you tell us what you paid. In USA the GE is about $2,600 and is not being discounted to $2,000 USD.

I paid $5,400 AUD which as of today is $3,703 USD. It is listed as over $6,000 AUD. It is the most expensive washer I have ever bought but it is an early Christmas present to myself. I do get the occasional pang of guilt for spending so much but hay ho.... I will get over it.

One thing I am a little disappointed about is that it does not recirculate the wash/Rinse water and spray over the load as the drum turns. I would have thought most FL washers would have this feature as standard by now. It has several ports at the top of the boot but so far no evidence of recirculation. The outer covering of the door is quite dark so not easy to see in. It does have a drum light so when that is on it is easier to see what is going on inside. I have promised I will not try and remove the outer cover so I can see in better. I did this to my LG FL a few years ago and the result was not pretty but I managed to fix it up so looks fine cosmetically now.

One of the features listed in the advertising is that it does have a "door/gasket spray", which I thought would be a recirculation feature but looks like when it fills, the water runs over the inner aspect of the glass door and gasket, I guess to flush it to keep it clean?

Great, you converted the AUD to USD so not as expensive as I thought. I hope as these units take a foothold in the marketplace, the price will drop

So I have run several loads in the new washer dryer and so far am very impressed with it.

Huge capacity. I did a load of two large duvet covers, two bottom sheets and 8 pillow cases and it washed and dried well, except the load was very wrinkled at the end. I suspect it was a little overloaded for the dry cycle. Nothing had balled or tangled so not too bad. I think I will continue to line dry sheets though.

One issue I have noticed it takes ages to get going for the final spin trying to balance the load. It did this on a bulky wash and the sheet wash. We are talking about 30 minutes. It did it eventually with no assistance from me. Hoping this will not be happening all the time.

It has a UV light setting which I have just used for the first time. No visible light that I can see but not sure if UV light is visible to us? Not sure if it is any good or just a gimmick. Recommended for cold water washing to remove bacteria etc. I am a little sceptical.

Very quiet throughout the cycle. Wash and rinse so far very good. As you can see it is a monster compared to the regular LG machine. Biggest capacity washer I have ever owned.
