Ya see... that's the trouble with all these "modern" appliances today.
Over-engineered, over-designed, trouble-prone hunks of crap.

I imagine that regardless of the brand name, that they hire some smart young Geeks to design these things, the higher-ups then accept the "impressive" design, and it goes to the fabrication lab for testing.
Voila!...... a New Model!

The simplicity (and reliability) of past products is forgotten, considered boring, old,.... no!, let's "fancy it up" with lots electronics! - "It's sure to sell if we put a bunch of lights and touch buttons on it!"
And we'll Outsource the manufacturing to some off-sea child labor factory to increase our greedy profit margin!"

My lowely old 1985 GE fridge has a "damper" adjustment for the fresh food section - it's a "boring" manual mechanical rotary knob that changes the amount of freezer air that little flapper door sends through.
And I've had absolutely no issues with the fridge, other than the occasional cleaning of dust on the coils underneath the fridge.

And you may wonder why I stick to my "old" appliances?
Because I'm a smart old bastard that doesn't want to be chained to the "Upgrade" propaganda influenced crowd.

My neighbor Tiffany just threw out a nearly new bottom freezer refrigerator about a week ago. Not sure of the brand, but it was one with French doors. Haven't talked to her since, so don't know what was wrong with it.

And now you understand my anger, my passion, my activism.

30 years ago my double door would have been nothing but a plastic piece for a damper. Now its motors, sensors, algorithms and well you see the outcome.

I spoke today with someone who recommends buying a new fridge. Of course because its a sale for them, but at the same time you truly are buying a disposable napkin meant to secure a soon to be future sale of another disposable napkin.

Mom used to always remind me to "Use Common Sense".
Well, I've "tuned" my Common Sense over the decades, which includes an acute sense of skepticism, a healthy amount of reasoning, and a sharp amount of questioning things.
Some might call it "looking down the road and seeing past your nose".
And I also look at oncoming situations and determine their worth, along with possible circumstances that may happen.

Sometimes, I feel that I've turned into a human computer of sorts, with the vast knowledge and experience that I've accumulated over the decades.

I've mentioned on here, and other websites, that I don't "buy into", or succumbed, what the masses have been trained/conditioned to accept as "normal living".
I often get chastized, blackballed, for my views, which I expect, and just ignore.
Because I've seen how much of society has been gradually brainwashed, their beliefs molded by all the propoganda and marketing.

Last summer, my neighbor across from me tossed out a 4 year old set of Samsung washer ($700) and dryer ($600)- both deemed not worth repairing by a servicer.
Out in the trash they went.

I am sorry that is happening to you. I know how you feel because I've also experienced it. Yes it is is painful, but being disingenuous to oneself is even more so.

My honest opinion is that all those people who are silencing you are in part suffering from copium. Deep down even they don't agree with what is going on either, but being powerless to stop it they convince themselves the problem is none existent, not as bad as it is, or is of some benefit. I think there is a lot of that on this site as well. People begin control the message rather than the actual problem at hand.

At this point I am willing to take a double door fridge that is nothing but an evaporator wrapped around the freezer walls, a smaller evap detouring through the fresh food compartment, an Embraco compressor, a capillary tube, a natural convection condenser, a 16 oz R134A charge, a thermostat, two mullion heaters and two switched incandescent bulbs. Crude and rude.


Ok, maybe an evap fan, defrost heater, defrost stat and a black 12 hour run 30 min defrost timer next to the compressor and not those stupid white ones in the fresh food compartment.

However, beyond what I just described is absolutely the law of diminishing returns. If a double door fridge could be that simple in 1985 it could still be this way today.
