looking for a dishwasher for our ne home. My old one was a Kitchenaid made by Hobart, so it was fast and the dishes came out clean. Is there any brand today that is almost as good?

I'd repair it, instead of "buy new" like the "throw away" society has adopted.
Best brand is still a KitchenAid, KitchenAid makes the most advanced dishwasher in the world with a true self cleaning filter system., No one else has anything like it. It has a much larger stronger motor than any other dishwasher. The KitchenAid dishwasher is a 5 pound motor compared to Bosch is 1 pound unit.
Most dishwashers have a quick one hour cycle however it doesn’t do a thorough job. It doesn’t heat the water adequately and if it used on a continuous basis, it usually results in less than great performance. It’s intended for loads that are pretty clean when they go in.
The modern pod detergent work better in a longer cycle, which is usually in the two hour range the long two hour cycle actually uses less water and a whole lot less energy than your old dishwasher, modern dishwashers also do not destroy the dishes and etch them like older dishwashers did with the fast cycles and powerful detergent.
I think you’ll be surprised how much you like a new machine, the most important thing is to use it as intended put the dishes in dirty and just enjoy not having to do all that work of rinsing and so forth.

I always rinse everything, but on big holiday dinners when I have to run it two or three times, my 38 year old d/w with the half hour cycle means I won't be up till 1:00 AM cleaning up. Maybe two dishwashers is the answer for me.
I don't rinse a darn thing. At best I'll scrape. Load machine and wait for full load to accumulate.

I am with Bob completely! What's the point of rinsing dishes before running them in the dishwasher?? That's the same as cleaning the house before the house cleaning lady comes! Asinine & completely senseless.
Agree combo52! My current Maytag (Whirlpool and Kitchen Aid family), maybe 7 years old, cleans better than any d/w I ever had before — and silently. With a self cleaning food grinder and filter. No manual clean filter that circulates the rinse water through food scraps like some American and all European machines. Gross. Completely unsanitary. And Stone Age. No manual clean filter for me. Every time I stay in a Residence Inn, I pull out the filter in the d/w, and it’s full of wet crap, so the dishes in the cupboard were washed in water that kept percolating through that unsanitary crap. Gross! Just one thing: gotta pick the right cycle. Not normal, not auto, but Power Blast so there are a few more rinses and never any film left on the tub. People complain about the longer cycle times. Mine says it’s going to run 3’ 28”. But I run the hot water faucet to get the water line hot before I start it. Do that so it doesn’t have to heat cold water fills, and it doesn’t run much longer than in days of old, nowhere close to 3-1/2 hours, not even half that much time. After a party, first thing I do is start the d/w. By the time I finish washing pots and pans and putting them away, and vacuum the house, it’s finished. Never a dirty utensil. Open it up hot, dishes dry instantly, put them away, shower and go to bed. Love it. MDB 8979SEZ0. Probably the design has been updated since then.
Better yet, I'd hunt down a Whirlpool power clean dishwasher in good to perfect working order.

The dishwasher rinses the dishes anyway!
