    Kitchenaid Superba overflow problem

I have the same machine and it's had the same problem. One thing that helped is cleaning the fill sensor in the bottom of the basin. It's next to the filter basket. Im still not sure why it happens, and I need to figure it out. Meanwhile, I just keep checking to make sure the unit is clean. If I...

Replacing bimetal strip for dispenser on Hobart Kitchenaid DW

I was tinkering around because the pre-rinse door wasn't opening and the strip broke. It must have just been old and weak right? Can I jerry rig something? I don't want to use the wrong metal or whatever. I'm also open to tips on only doing a main wash. Right now I've been doing a rinse and hold...

How much effort to maintain new dishwashers vs old?

Panthera, 5 to 7 years for BOL dishwashers right? I can't believe every tier and brand has that lifespan. What about folks like Bosch and Miele? Side note, the rusty clamp on my hose snapped off, which is why it had problems... THIS time. Whew. But damn it if I don't love having those dishes...

How much effort to maintain new dishwashers vs old?

I have an inkling of an idea as to what advice I'll get on this issue, but I thought I'd ask! Much frustration today as my vintage Kitchenaid has over filled now 3 times, and other ailments have assaulted it. The idea was to get a vintage dishwasher for ease of repair when things DO go wrong...

Can vintage freezers rival new ones? ( energy efficiency )

Can I just say I hate fridge/freezer combos. I just kinda hate them. If it were up to me, I'd have an industrial fridge, and an industrial freezer, just like at the grocery store. 1) Everyone should totes get a kill-o-whatever and send in those numbers for your old/new freezers. I wonder how...

Can vintage freezers rival new ones? ( energy efficiency )

Yeahhhh... but..... anyone have any data though? Because I'm still not sold that the old freezers are "energy efficient enough". How would they compare to old fridges? I know many people have claimed that their vintage fridges are costing them $20/mo. Various posts from...

Can vintage freezers rival new ones? ( energy efficiency )

I'm just thinking, how much energy do old chests use compared to new? I love the idea of never having to repair my freezer, even if it costs a little more to run each month. But if the energy usage is too much to justify repair savings, then bye bye vintage...

Can vintage freezers rival new ones? ( energy efficiency )

I'm just curious how vintage chest and upright freezers do against their modern counterparts when it comes to energy savings I'm especially interested in comparing vintage chest manual defrost to modern ones. Are the compressors just the weak link here? Anyone ever tried installing a modern...

    Anyone see the Solar Eclipse?

Man, we almost didn't go see it because we were scared of traffic, but it turned out to be totally fine. We live 1.5 hr away from totality. It really was great. Pictures dont really convey how silver shiny the whole thing is. It's not diffused, its piercingly white. Here's a wee bit of (crappy)...

    Lanolin as a "Fabric Softener"

So I've been toying around with this after reading online about someone who tried using lanolin on their wool and cotton shirts. Seems like a good idea to protect fibers and aid in self cleaning? Although, there seems to be some debate on whether or not wool fibers are what makes wool self...

How we feelin' bout Washer / Dryer Combo units?

I mean, they are SO common in Japan, SO common in Europe. I keep finding out about machines that I WISH they made in the states, but they don't because we don't seem to care about living small. Now the fact that they're often ventless is a nono to me. But in theory, why wouldnt they be a good idea?
