I have a vintage Hobart KDS17 that began overflowing on Friday.I'd love to fix her. No idea where to start or what to do. I am very handy and I have lots of tools however I haven't ever repaired a dishwasher...

Any advice or suggestions about where to start or where to find parts would be greatly appreciated.

I'd check the float switch first.  I'm not sure about the 17 series, but later models have the float located on the floor of the tub at front left.  If you move it up and down while the tub is empty, you should hear the switch clicking underneath the machine.

Does the overflowing stop when you shut off the machine or do you have to shut off the water supply?  If you have to shut off the supply valve, I'd suspect the machine's inlet valve solenoid is either stuck open or isn't receiving the signal to close.  Experts here can advise on how to test it.

I have the same machine and it's had the same problem. One thing that helped is cleaning the fill sensor in the bottom of the basin. It's next to the filter basket.
Im still not sure why it happens, and I need to figure it out. Meanwhile, I just keep checking to make sure the unit is clean. If I dont wash dishes for a few days, a mold or something builds up.

By the way, does your machine fully drain at the end of a cycle? Mine doesnt, and I was told that is common in this model, but I have to wonder if theres a way to correct that.
